Good for families

Not for us

This site is well located not far from the sea and within easy reach of the coastal towns. It adjoins Cayton village which has bus stops. The access road is good except for school time in the afternoon when the road is restricted to single file by parents parking. We had a cheerful and helpful check-in and all Covid rules were followed. After that it went downhill. The first part of the site was full so we ended up on the top part which has narrow pitches and you are supposed to park your car across the end of the pitch which is impossible without driving over some grass. Fortunately it was dry. Once the site filled up it looked like a street with cars parked either side. It was very cramped and claustrophobic. Any latecomers had great difficulty in accessing their pitch. Similarly you couldn't hitch up and drive off because of parked cars. It really was poor design but probably worked if the site was less busy. Bizarrely the pitches were covered in beach pebbles, some of them quite large which were very unforgiving to walk on. It took us the best part of an hour to get our rock pegs in for the awning and we bent a few in the process. We didn't like this at all. The TV reception isn't mentioned in the book or on line but in the site leaflet is described as generally good. We found it poor to non existent as did our neighbour and we were not near any trees. We noticed at 6pm every night a miserable looking security guard patrolled the site. If this was supposed to reassure us it didn't. It left us wondering what horrible things had happened on this site that necessitated a security patrol. It was quite unsettling. It would be churlish not to recommend a newly refurbished site and we would recommend it to motorhomers who don't bother with an awning since we know they like to have a bus stop nearby. Many positive reviews are indeed from motorhomers but for us the cramped pitches, the poor TV and the horrible pebbles were too much to bear especially for what we paid. We wont be back and we have never said that about any site after many years of caravanning.
