This site is a bit like Marmite - you either love it or hate it! We have been coming here for a few years and absolutely love it - the pitches are all different sizes and dotted through the woods. Facilities are clean and the wardens are very friendly. Coniston Inn has a fantastic bar and does beautiful food as does most of the pubs in the village - Torver also has the lovely Wilsons Pub which again does lovely food. Would highly recommend this site if you like somewhere less regimented than the usual sites.
Weekend away.
Stayed for a long weekend. I’m new to the motorhome life and this was the first time for just my dog and myself, so i made things as easy as possible!! I thought i’d done plenty of research and talked to people ‘in the know’, however, i wasn’t prepared for my fridge and plug sockets not to work.
The staff at reception were really helpful and had a good idea of what the issue was. ‘Lee’ came to help and, having checked that everything else in my motorhome was fine, changed the EHU to a different mains socket as the one being used was faulty & kept tripping. Problem solved!! Lesson learnt!!
The campsite is well maintained, clean & tidy. Coniston is only 20-40 minute walk away, depending on where you’re pitched & the route taken. (There is a bus service that passes the site, 2-3 times a day, Monday - Friday). The lake is close by and the chippy/pizza van, by reception, is a good alternative to cooking!! (Ear plugs may be needed on the nights when it’s raining heavily).
Would i return to this campsite again?...yes i would!!!
Great site and location
A great site once you arrive. The last 5 miles into the site are narrow and you need to take care but it’s worth it when you arrive. Easy walk into Coniston via the lake and fields which are mainly paved. Great pubs and restaurants in Coniston. Site facilities and staff very good. The is a site in the woods so it’s not regimented like most club sites. Easy drive to Ambleside and Windermere which gets very busy.
Mixed feelings
Friendly staff team and facilities clean, peaceful at night ( but expect a lot rain noise from trees). Nice walk into Coniston - top or bottom routes from site. Further from lake than realised so didn’t paddle board as too far to carry for us, but did have lovely swims from ‘ beach’ at bottom of campsite accessed through a busy camping field ( unsure if this is connected to site or not ). Food truck open every night in mid sept, didn’t partake but seemed busy enough.
Now the but …
Arrived to holiday 7 nights with friends, two double axle vans, multiple cul de sac type pitching area within the trees . Find your own pitch from few available despite getting there as advised 11am . So basically expected to drive round to find free pitch, which may or may not be free when you get there as we found pitches taken despite being told free at check in. With 2 large vans after a long drive - rubbish . Didn't get next to friends but in adjacent cul de sacs . To add insult to injury campervan came to pitch next to us parked wrong way round so their door side faced our awning for 5 nights , nice enough people but not our friends who we hoped to holiday next to !
Saw multiple vans driving round several times trying to find pitches having no doubt been directed to area at check in as we were , this was despite seeing several warden vehicles pass in set up time - surely they could note what is taken to keep check in desk ‘live’ .
I know this no reservation find your pitch thing is a caravan club thing but it is not customer focussed and is a model that needs changing. Booked for next year on C&C club site in Keswick on fully serviced pitch , with friends next door . We work hard for our hols and could do without the uncertainty the C&MH club offers guests.

Motorhome Awning
Stayed at site from 9/9/23 till 16/9/23. Lovely site, clean and friendly staff. A Big shoutout to a member of staff who helped me with my awning, Lee (ex policeman) , just like to a big thank you , went above and beyond that day. Thanks🙏🏻
Great site and the trip in and out was ok in our motorhome
August 2023. 2 nights.
We booked 1 night but immediately decided to stay a second.
Quickest route on foot into Coniston is via the top path near reception (20 mins) and this passes a pub on the way in.
The path into Coniston from the bottom of the site is much longer.
Obviously great walking area.
We did the boat trip from Torver to Coniston but misjudged where the jetty pick up point was and had to wait an hour for the next one! (so check those maps).
Woodland site with a lovely feel.
Van at entrance was serving food and drinks every night. We enjoyed our pizzas.
Pricey but worth it for the location.
This is a great site my favourite so far
As the title says I love this site. I drive a VW transporter so it’s not the biggest of vehicles. I read the reviews about the approach roads to the site but if you’re in a similar sized vehicle you shouldn’t struggle. The site is easy to find and in an amazing location, a short walk (30 mins) and a very short walk to the lake.
On arrival you can’t miss reception with plenty of room to park. The staff i found very helpful. I got to pick my own pitch, the site is set in the winding woods and easy to navigate. I found the pitches large and well set out.
The facilities I think are great, pretty much all electric with most pitches large enough for awnings.
The toilet and shower blocks are great and very clean. The washing up areas again were to the same high standard.
I found the site to be extremely peaceful even though it was evident there was plenty of people staying.
I enjoyed the walk to Coniston and back but it was glorious sunshine.
I would recommend this site and will return. I am a novice to the motorhome world and only hope that I will find other sites just as good.
Glorious Summer
This is an excellent site and more so when the weather is good. The site appeals to families and is well sited for those who wish to enjoy water based leisure with paddle boards, canoes kayaks and sailing dingies with reasonable access to the lakeside. Pleasant walks into Coniston Village and good location for walking generally and the Old Man of Coniston. Cumbria Way passes along lakeside

Over zealous wardens
We used to come to this site when our children were small with a caravan, it was our first time back on our own. We like the site and the layout ( it’s not called park coppice for nothing) it’s quite a walk to Coniston ( we knew that) and there are some nice pubs there.
Now for the negatives, you cannot check in even 1 minute before 10am and the warden who checked me in took about 25 minutes going through everything, I could not stop her , she was very patronising, she more or less said don’t bother asking any questions as it’s all in the pamphlet. I’ve been a member for over 15 years and I’m not stupid. She made it clear by ringing the 5mph speed limit that was strict. This obviously doesn’t apply to kids on bikes screeching about going faster than that ! On day 2 I got a phone call from a different warden saying I had a double adapter in the electric hook up and I had broken the club rules so I must remove immediately( I was out for the day) they obviously have little knowledge of the workings of Vw campervan as most of it runs off the leisure battery I tried to explain this but he wasn’t having it , I said the other hook up was for cooking outside and the other was for the trickle charge for the battery. These pitches are over £40 per night for a couple now , it’s a shame spoiled by over zealous wardens with absolutely no people skills whatsoever.
Great site and beautiful area
Lovely site in the woodland, close to Coniston Water which can be accessed from the bottom of the site.
We were surprised how peaceful it was, as it was quite busy. Very clean facilities, and a small shop which was well stocked with all the essentials, and much more (including some very nice wine)
The approach roads are quite narrow in places so larger outfits may find them quite difficult to manoeuvre.
There is a pub serving good food a 20 minute walk away, and there is a takeaway van on site most evenings (pre-booked orders)
We enjoyed our stay here and will definitely return
