This is a beautiful site and I can see why so many return. We received a very warm welcome, the ample toilet and shower facilities are immaculate and there are lovely walks from the site.
The site info recommends approaching from the South but even then the last 6 miles are very difficult with a large unit, in our case an 8' wide caravan. The road is very narrow in places and used by coaches, motorhomes and caravans as well as tourist traffic to Coniston and Ambleside. Unusually this site allows arrivals from 10am which increases the chances of meeting an equally wide vehicle coming in the opposite direction.
The pitches are a variety of shapes, sizes and inclines and scattered around a huge forested area. Some are in cul-de-sacs and some more like lay-by pitches. We are usually big fans of CAMC's policy of picking your own pitch but on this site its a bit of a headache. Not all the pitches are suitable for larger caravans (despite most being priced as the standard unit plus awning) and the lovely wooded setting means that only a fraction of pitches are visible at a time so we witnessed many caravan owners driving around many times to find a suitable pitch. Frustratingly many of the larger pitches were occupied by the tiniest of camper vans.
To summarise, this is a really lovely site and a credit to the wardens, but less suitable for larger units, particularly at high season.
Lovely Site - would recommend
We've booked this site three times this year so far. We like the fact that it is a walk into town - gets the steps on. Great little pub called The Ship a ten minute walk from the site. Then onwards into Coniston with it's lovely cafes and pubs. My husband particularly likes a pint at The Black Bull.
Have now walked Coniston Old Man twice and done a couple of the other Wainwrights in the area. Walk out the bottom of the site and you're soon by the lakeside.
Coniston is a lot quieter than it's neighbour Ambleside, also quieter than Keswick and Windermere but I think it's a totally different experience - we love it.
Site can be shady with the trees and you'll have to select a pitch if you need a satellite signal. Toilets are always spotless. Love the fact it's open all year round - you can't beat a good walk in the Lakes on a crisp winters day.
Brilliant site for Campervan, tight approach roads for Caravans
This site is great for families wanting watersports on the lake, can't fault it if you are in a campervan. However, if you are in a caravan then the approach roads are not easy. I won't be revisiting this site in a hurry with a caravan. Our neighbour said at one of the tight spots he had to pass a coach - wasn't going to happen so he had to unhitch, motor-move the 'van onto someone's drive and let the coach pass. That's the kind of journey that preys on your mind for the return trip all holiday. No TV reception and no WiFi unless you get a top pitch. Another worry was that early arrivals were been let on the site - not good if you meet an oncoming caravan at one of the many tight spots
Great site for families but as a couple, I won't choose this again.

Lovely
Couldn’t fault this site, brilliant place to have a summer vacation right next to coniston lake ❤️
Excellent stay
Having used a few CL sites, this was our first visit to a club site. I can say we were not in any way disappointed. The initial welcome by the staff was superb, VERY friendly and VERY helpful. The site itself was easy to navigate and the pitches, despite being set on a hill, were in the main level. The toilet/shower blocks were immaculate, clean and well maintained. I would definitely recommend this site as a comfortable base to explore the Lake District.
Loved this site and will definitely return!
Literally just a one night visit on our way through to Edinburgh. Staff were really friendly and welcoming. It was quite busy but you’d never know. Really, really quiet. Early dog walk round the site and all you could hear were birds tweeting. I love the little cul-de-sac areas. Toilets and showers were spotless and warm. Lovely walk from the site into Coniston. Plenty of places to eat and drink. We had pizza from the van at the entrance and it was really good. I guess the only downside was only one grey waste drain for motorhomes. Fine in April but might be slow when it’s busier. If there was another one, I couldn’t see it when I was walking the dogs. We’ll definitely return and stay longer to do some of the local hill walks. Highly recommend
Weekend 15th-16th April 23
Fabulous warm and helpful welcome from everyone at reception. Clear instructions and helpful advice around selecting a pitch.
Facilities immaculate and the site is wonderful- highly recommend 😊 Thanks to all the staff.
Excellent site.
As a newbie to motorhoming and to the CAMH sites, we were given a great welcome and the reception person gave us a brilliant clear run though of the do and don’t on site. The site itself is well laid out, pitches generally level and plenty of space between. It was quiet and lots of wildlife to see. Good base for the lakes.
Deffo come again
Wonderful woods, lake and scenery with a warm welcome!
We loved Park Coppice site, from the warm welcome on arrival, to the thoughtful layout of the site and the beautiful scenery that surrounds it. There are lots of options for individual pitches, and if you want peace and quiet, we certainly found it! Having said that, there are also all the attractions of the Lake District within easy reach, with spectacular lakeside drives each way. We visited with our dog and he very much enjoyed the woodland setting and the space we had, as well as all the interesting walks in every direction. We would very much recommend everything about this.
