A good place for Anniversaries

This is the third year running that we have spent our wedding anniversary at this site. This time it was our Silver Wedding and as usual we had a wonderful time at the site. At this time of year the area is much less busy reflected in the fact that only about a quarter of the pitches were available and only one of the three wash and toilet facilities on site was open. The walking direct from the site here is extensive and varied which is why we love it. Also not very far afield there are hundreds more areas for walkers. On site there is a variety of wildlife and with the site so quiet we saw at least 3 Roe deer wandering about the empty pitches. The woodpeckers were very busy and our bird feeder was visited by bluetits, great tits, coal tits, chaffinches, Nuthatch and robins.  The site is well laid out with numerous pitching areas among the trees on a number of terraces. This means that although the site is a very big one there is no feel ing of being crowded. The facilities are spotless as always on club sites and the wardens were very welcoming, again as always.  We will probably return for our 26th but hope to be there again much sooner than that.

Peaceful....perfect

Great site location. Walk into Coniston either route was easy, although may be a little muddy and uneven underfoot for some. We planned a weekend of walking and routes started from the site.  Coniston far less commercial than other Lakeside villages but good range of shops and pubs. The Ship on route into Coniston was lovely. We didnt eat there but diners were praising the quality. At the site Wardens welcoming and helpful in finding a pitch. Site is well maintained and we would love to see the trees it in other seasons. Toilets immaculate. We will certainly be back.

A Lovely Break

We stayed from 1st March for 6 nights and found the temporary wardens, Alan and Dee extremely friendly and helpful. The site and facilities were of a very high standard and would make us keen to return again. After talking to Alan and Dee and experiencing their hospitality, we are very interested in visiting their site in Exmoor. The site is well located for some fasinating walks, especially the Old Man of Coniston, the local beer after these walks are very welcoming

Winter wardens

Try not to go when the winter wardens are still there (March).  There was no replacement gas available, no papers, very little essentials in fact.  Do not book a non-awning pitch they are very small and restricted to poor areas of the Site.

Forrest Treasure

This is a fantastic site in the middle of the forrest on the banks of Conniston Water. if you are into water sports hill walking or a quiet pub lunch or dinner this is the site for you. My own treasured memory of being here was walking the dog early one morning thro the trees and coming across a young stag eating his breakfast he looked at us and we back at him and he wandered slowly away. the site is a pleasurable walk to the village of conniston and the pubs and shops. which can be very busy during the summer months. the main road access is narrow so make sure you approach from the way that the club guide recomends its also hand for Ambleside and all the other lakes attractions well worth a visit

A two night stay

Fabulous site within walking distance of Coniston village and good dog friendly pubs. (The Ship Inn is the nearest pub about 15 mins walk and the new owners were very accommodating and friendly.) The relief wardens on site were extremely friendly and made me feel very welcome. They offered some good advice for training my dog  - hopefully I'll get to visit their site near Exmoor! There is also access to the lakeside from the site with wonderful walks and spectacular views.

First Time Out

Booked a one night stay to try out our new VW campervan on what is a fairly local site to us. We received a very friendly welcome and spotless facilities. We had been here many years ago with the family and living near the Lake District we know the area well. Great for walking, quiet and sheltered location, within walking distance of the pub and Coniston village. Unfortunately the weather was not so kind but the visiting fish & chip van was a great bonus. We will return.

Lovely site

We thoroughly enjoyed the site and facilities, as we expected as we had been before several times. A little put off by the warden who had us move 6 inches because our position was not perfect. There was no-one either side of us for the whole visit! We were a motorhome rather than a caravan, so the position was not really critical. Rather sad. Fortunately it was a relief warden, so will visit again.

Happy Dogs, Great Wardens

Tried this site for an extended February break. Dogs loved it, which meant it was great for us. Off-lead walks right down to the Coniston Water were fab and the young dog loved the clean water of the the lake (as did we when she was so clarty when she went in but clean when she came out!). Wardens Alan and Dee were great and helpful. Travelling chip shop is expensive at £6 per person - same price for Cumberland sausage and chips - can't comment on quality as they'd run out of what we wanted so we cooked in the van. We approached from the North (via Penrith, Keswick, Grasmere and Ambleside) - the route is a bit challenging and not for the faint-hearted if you are towing a large van (ours is a 27 foot twin-axle) but is fine if you take your time, use the few wide bits of road to slow and let other vehicles get past so they can progress at their pace. We'd arrive this way again as it's so much shorter for us than the long detour to the southern route. Will be back!
