FAB!

A beautiful site, pitches amongst trees and open spaces, tucked away in every nook and cranny. I would strongly advise to ride around the full extent of this site before deciding on your pitch. Nice little herb trough near the site office to enhance any of your home cooked meals. The facilities, as you would expect from a CS site, were all clean although I did think that one of the blocks I used was looking a little tired and could do with some updating. Most of the pitches are relatively flat, but there is very little grass, you will need some strong tent pegs for your awnings. You're given a key to access the toilets and showers as I believe they do have a problem with some people from the neighbouring campsite down at the lake shore trying to use the facilities. A very short walk from the site down to the lake, and some amazing views. We are in a motorhome and just using bicycles to get about. The ride into Coniston is easy and relatively flat, plenty of pubs and shops in Coniston. Small museum in the town with a section on Donald Campbell, we didn't venture in but we did go in the local church where there is a lovely etched glass memorial to him. We cycled round to the other side of the lake as far as Brantwood, this was a little more strenuous but stunning views again. The cycle ride to Torver was also good, mainly on cycle paths with the bonus of a delightful pub, The Church House Inn, at the end of the journey (small CL site also here at the pub). We hired an electric boat at Coniston Quay, two hours is long enough to get you to the far end and back in the time. Plenty of areas to launch your canoe, kayak, paddle board etc or if you just wish to sit, swim and take in the views and relax on the grassy banks shared with the sheep. This site is just perfect, sad to leave.

Not sure how well advertised it is, but you can visit Donald Campbell's grave in the cemetery along the little road just of the main street. Very poignant.
