Fab-u-lous site

Stayed for a week and loved this site. Such clean facilities pleasure to use them. Great dog walk. Pool and restaurant were lovely. Wardens super friendly and helpful. Would be better if more hard standings as very soggy ground after rainy days. Well stocked shop and nice assistants. Definitely will book again.

One Of The Best

Stayed here from the 2nd of September for 12 nights. On a serviced pitch on the lower part of the site  , bit of a trek to the toilets and showers but nice and quiet apart from being the main route out of the site , could do with speed bumps on that part of the site to slow the traffic down . Toilets and outside areas well maintained and clean, staff very friendly . Good bus service from site . Will visit again

We were lucky I suppose

We arrived on 13th September for a three night stay. We asked for a hardstanding as we have a fairly large and heavy motorhome so we were given a disabled pitch due to it being a short stay. There had been torrential rain before and while we were there and a lot of the grass pitches seemed to have slopes to access and exit from so I think if we had used some of the grass pitches we would have had a problem getting off them and not sure what would be available to tow us off had we got stuck. It is a shame and I understand some of the frustration that people have mentioned but I fail to see what the wardens can do as most people today seem to want hardstandings. Maybe if grass pitches were slightly cheaper for people on a tighter budget would help? Anyway the site is great, facilities modern and spotlessly clean, fabulous location for bus routes to Dartmouth, Brixham and surrounding areas. We didn't use the pool or clubhouse as we're not bingo fans and like to appreciate a bit of peace whilst we are away. Thanks again CC.

Hardworking Wardens

We were here from Sept 3rd .The wardens were working extremely hard to manage a difficult situation caused by adverse weather. My understanding is that motorhomes such as ours were on grandstanding because of the constraints 're towing if stuck. The site is in a wonderful situation we were on the lower level and from the galley window we looked across the valley, red devon cows with their calves were grazing.Wonderful in the early morning mist or evening  sun. There are lovely walks excellent bus links and lots of things to do.The swimming pool was heated to a comfortable temperature and the shop is convenient. The wardens were courteous in the face of some rudeness from a minority of members, perhaps these were the same users who left the facilities in a mess. I can understand some people were frustrated and even angry but really there is no ideal solution to a problem caused by weather and the wardens do have to maintain the integrity of the pitches for the rest of the long season. We enjoyed our stay and will visit again.

Disgruntled

Arrived on September 2nd, wardens tried to contact us to cancel owing to heavy rain.  We were there so we were allocated a grass pitch as all hardstandings were taken, mainly by heavy motor homes. We had a caravan with an awning and spent our holiday of fourteen nights on a wet pitch. We were unavable to move as there were no hardstandings available. Except that we saw them every day and mostly they were occupied by heavy motor homes or were empty.  In any case we are in our late seventies and the effort of taking down the awning and moving would have been too much.  We loved the site and had a good holiday but unless we can book hardstanding are not prepared to come again which is a shame.  The hard standings look lovely and they are roomy. We had also booked very early in the year for a long stay and it is very galling to see choice pitches being used for a few days and often with a motor home only marker meaning the pitch is empy for most of the day,   A further comment is that there are not enough disabled facilities my husband has a radar key but was often unable to access the facility as it was being used.  These days there are many people that need these facilities and obviously take longer in them than more able people.  The site itself is superb but the pitching arrangements need to be thoroughly overhauled.

Not the best experience

It was very busy when we arrived on 6th September 2015 and there was a considerable queue, eventually we set off to find a hard standing pitch, drove round the site numerous times but there were none available apart from reserved ones ! Eventually parked on grass which we did not want ,then had to spend a week looking at a large hard standing pitch opposite us that stayed empty. The wardens attitude was very condescending and most unhelpful.we were told this pitch was reserved for a 8.5 meter motor home, eventually it was taken by a motor home the same as ours, which is 7 meters but we had an awning and a tow car as well. The shop is fantastic, selling warm croissants, and a wide variety of food as well as camping items. To summarise the site is in a lovely area but the majority of pitches are far too small and you stand as much chance of getting hard standing as winning the lottery.

Very good site

Facilities on this site are excellent and cleanliness of sanitary facilities in particular was exceptional. Stayed 7nights from 6/9/15 and enjoyed good weather. A very large site and wardens not completely sure which pitches were still available at 4pm when we arrived which meant we had to park our outfit by the playground and go in search of available pitches up and down the steep sloping roads. The one way system means that you may have to reverse your outfit uphill to access your pitch when it would have been more convenient to be able to reverse downhill onto it.  Having said all that we will definitely return to explore this wonderful part of Devon and enjoy Hillhead's fabulous location and superb facilities

First time here

The site has good facilities is clean and tidy the pool is excellent. The pitch allocation needs sorting out though as this site is very big and if you have not been before it is daunting. Not everyone has been before and do not know the site. Being given a marked map and told ' I think these pitches are available ' is not good enough, the staff need to know what is available. Most of the map marked pitches were already occupied. The site needs a new pitch allocation system whereby they know what is available and can send you straight to a allocated pitch. After all it is a leave by noon site so they should know what is free.  Like others who were also unhappy I drove around for ages trying to find free map marked pitches. Some of the standard pitches with views will not take a 7.5 metre Motorhome, and if you could get into them you would not get out again because of the tight ingress and egress angles. Apart from that it was a pleasant stay and if you want all the facilities then this site has them.

Good times

We stayed at Hillhead 05 August to 10 August. The site was well kept as were the the facilities. The shop on site is a god send and sells everything you need. With the bar on site with entertainment included it all makes for a good place to stay. I would just say that we were on the very lower level service pitches which in our opinion are a little on the small side for service pitches as our outfit just about fit on. I know the site is on a hill side but these pitches seemed a little close to our neighbours and enclosed, next time we will try to pitch at the top of the site. Having said that with the very good weather we had and the lovely site  with great facilities and lots to do in the surrounding area we very much enjoyed the holiday and can't wait to return.
