The most tranquil site we’ve ever been to!

Modbury site was the most peaceful and tranquil site we have ever been to. We stayed for 1 week late August & yet still the site was so peaceful. The site is beautiful and well laid out with lots of extra space in and around the pitches. Although the site is good for children with a park & play area, it doesn’t have a toddler wash room. With our 3 young kiddies, it just made wash time a bit harder by having to use the ladies shower cubicles. Hopefully if the wash room is updated, this could be incorporated. The ladies only have 4 showers, but this didn’t prove an issue when we were there. A special thanks to the lady warden for making us and our children feel very welcomed.

Lovely quiet site and lovely staff

Just a short review, we really enjoyed our stay, the site is so peacful and the wardens a credit to the Club. Really friendly helpful and warm. Shower block does need a bit up updating but having said that it was spotlessly clean! The access road is rather narrow but this is the par for this part of Devon and after some of the lanes we found ourselves down while exploring the area to access some of the more remote beautiful beaches, the access road seemed like a motorway! If you want peace and quiet this site is perfect. We loved Salcombe and Kingsbridge and Modbury a five minute drive away, was a nice little town with a nice Bistro, bakery, butchers and a Co-op, pubs and some very good independent shops.

difficult to fault

We have relatives in Plymouth and have been coming down here for over 30 years but had never stayed at Modbury. I have no idea why we overlooked this beautiful site. It has everything and easy access to all of South Devon. The wardens are some of the nicest, friendliest encountered and work tremendously hard. Whilst not the newest facilities they are spotlessly clean and well maintained. We like the dog shower, very useful. For dog owners, there is a massive exercise field for off-lead running. There is a large childrens play area with modern play equipment and a separate play field for ball games, kite flying etc. Only thing that keeps people away from this gem is the narrowness of the approach lanes. Long may they remain ;)

SUPERB SITE

Having recently spent ten days at Modbury and our second visit in five weeks it never lets you down. The hospitality on the wardens part(Martin & Jerry) is second to none the the site is a credit to the Caravan club so much so we and our friends will visiting again in Septenber. The location could not be better there is so much to do with our two small terriers we had a cracking time on the fleet estate beaches only a short drive away.In some of the previous reviews the approach road to Modbury might put you off take it from me the approach in no problem for any competent driver if not, then you should not be on the road towing a caravan. The weekly visit by the fling fryer and pizza company was a nice touch and highly recommend, and don't forget to try the local produce in reception

Fantastic Site

It has all be said about the approach roads, and the Wardens being terrific, but I have a little tale to tell. We stayed in our motorhome (6.55 m length) and decided to go to Bigbury on Sea having researched the beach car park on Google Earth for any height restrictions. It looked ideal as it is a large car park with plenty of turning space. We travelled the few miles, meeting lorries, cars in the narrow lanes with passing places. When we arrived at the beach the car park was only a third occupied and I selected a suitable two bays that are marked as 5m length bays. I anticipated paying for two bays at £4 each for the day at this incredible spot on a hot and sunny day. To my dismay when I read the conditions of parking board it clearly stated that no campervans, motorcaravans and motorhomes in excess of 5m were permitted to park. I again anticipated paying for two bays but was told that this was not permitted as the bye law clearly states that no vehicles over 5m in length were permitted. The farmers field up the hill was closed ( he opens up at weekends only at a cost of £4) We left very disappointed and drove to the village of Modbury where the car park board stated that 'if your vehicle does not fit into the marked bays (5m long) then parking is not permitted'. We found an on street space up a very steep hill but didn't stay long because we felt unwelcome.Motorhomers beware!!! Great site, great wardens and great weather.

A little piece of Heaven in South Devon

This site has to be the best. Firstly, the Wardens were brilliant. I witnessed a change in Wardens whilst I was there, but the changeover was seamless, as all four of the Wardens simply could not be bettered. The facilities were spotless, the surroundings were peaceful and quiet. The weather was, quite simply, amazing! This part of the country surely must be one of the prettiest areas that we, as a nation, possess. Rolling green hills, the sound of sheep and cows the only things to disturb the peace - and it was wonderful! Haymaking was in full swing last week (which did make for some interesting situations on the narrow roads!) but all in all, a site of which the Club can be rightly proud. Just a mention of a marvellous Farm Shop and café the other side of Kingsbridge, just to the east of East Charleton. It is called 'Springfields', and they have a great range of locally produced produce, from meat and vegetables, to the lovely home made cakes! Claire and Corrina (I even got on first name terms) were so friendly and helpful, I can strongly recommend a visit - and the view over the valley whilst having a cuppa outside the café is breath-taking. All in all, a fabulous holiday, and I will definitely be returning.

A site is only as good as the wardens and this site is as good as it gets

We have just had four nights at this site having first visited here over 20 years ago, it is a lovely site with large pitches and has something for everyone, a large play area and field for the kids and a good size dog walking area. The access points and main shower blocks are all kept spotless and the site is beautifully maintained. We were going to stay on a hard standing pitch as we have a caravan and large awning and large towing vehicle but the grass pitches were so good and spacious we opted for one of these close to the bird feeders at the top of the site and saw plenty of wildlife, including a woodpecker that regularly came to feed. The most important part of any site I feel is how welcome you are made to feel on arrival and how helpful the wardens are and having stayed on many sites over the years, I have to say that thanks to the wardens at Modbury, this site is as good as it gets and is a credit to the Caravan and motor home club.looking forward to re-visiting this site again as and when we can and don't be put off by the small stretch of narrow lane close to the site as there are plenty of passing places, we met a couple of lorries on this lane and passing by was slow but manageable

Five stars all around

This site is absolutely superb. We arrived late on a Friday just after 8.30pm, the wardens on shift were amazing , very flexible and happily checked us in . The shop was well catered and had some gorgeous scones . We found the site very easy to get to and the road access was very accessible no issues at all . Our stay was memorable , it was so peaceful , lots of birds and wildlife . We have two Labrador’s and they adored the dog walk which was easy to get onto from our pitch and well kept , even had a bench for us to take a rest . The pitches were fantastic and very spacious . We found the facilities 10 /10 , the toilet block was always immaculate. WE WILL BE BACK TO VISIT , A BIG THANK YOU TOTHE WARDENS WHO WERE VERY FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL . THANK YOU .

Modbury Site Access

Having read all the reviews about the horrendous access roads to Modbury we very nearly csncellled our booking , having decided to make the journey we were pleasantly surprised , yes the road narrows in places but if you actually take your time and watch for any large vehicles coming in the other direction and stop then access is no problem. We found all the drivers and lorry drivers very courteous and everyone stopped for each other in fact if anyone has made the journey through kings ridge to start bay that road is more of an issue than the road to.Modbury. Site is very quiet and wardens keep everything clean and tidy , perhaps could have done with more showers open during the Easter period as people were queuing on a morning. The only issue we witnessed on the road was 2 caravans very close together making it impossible to pull in safely and allow other road users to pass , little bit of forethought for the last 2.5 miles may have helped them and ensure they had space to allow free flow of the other traffic as we were stuck in the opposite direction as the lorry coming from our direction was unable to pass the second caravan safely. Would suggest if anyone thinking of coming to Modbury to give it s go lovely views and no overcrowding.

The Club Should Be Proud Of These Wardens !

My wife and I have just spent a fantastic Autumn week on this beautiful site. In fact, we are still here as I type, and going home tomorrow. What I would like to say first and foremost is, the wardens (Assistant, I think) Simon and his lovely wife (my apologies for not asking her name!) absolutely worked their socks off whilst we were here. Not only that, they were friendly, informative, extremely helpful and welcoming. Despite the slow down in site traffic due to the season, Simon and his wife could be seen constantly tending to the pitches, toilets, bin areas, showers, flower beds, grass and leaves and every other aspect of their important remit. I have read about the facilities being dated at this site, but must say, the toilets and showers were absolutely fantastic ! Spotlessly clean, water piping hot and the water pressure by far the strongest I have ever experienced. They would knock the spots off the shower we have at home! This is a wonderful part of the country, with the vast and historical Dartmoor 30 minutes away, and the most glorious sandy beach we have been on in the UK, at Bigbury, only 20 minutes drive. We have had a smashing week here, but must say that the wardens, Simon and his lovely wife, made our visit that little bit more special. They are without doubt a huge asset to the site, and we wish them well for the future. All in all, a great week, and we shall be sorry to leave. Steve & Christine Haward.
