Quiet Little Gem

What a beautiful little gem hidden in the quiet Devon countryside. So peaceful and calm. Owners are lovely and the site is kept to a very high standard. Good size pitches although grass pitches are larger. Wash block, although the older style, is immaculate and there was never a queue. Always plenty of hot water. Super play area for younger children. Close by are the beautiful beaches of Bigbury Sands, Hope Cove, Salcombe and many others. Close to Modbury ,an ancient little town, and Ashburton, gateway to Dartmoor. Dartmouth is a quick drive. So many choices!!! We loved this site and definitely will return next year. The approach road is not as narrow as we were led to believe. Definitely a hidden GEM .

A consistent little Gem!

This was our second visit and just as relaxing and enjoyable as the first. Once again the staff were efficient and friendly and ready to help if required. Our only surprise was how few members had found there way to this site. Don't be put off by the comments about narrow approach roads. We have a fair size rig (car and caravan) and at 20 mph there was no undue excitement. The rewards are well worth the effort. For real ale and good food fans, check out the Ship Inn in Nos Mayo and the Rugglestone Inn, Widecombe in the Moor.

Lovely, relaxing Modbury.

Just returned from our fourth holiday at this site, 3 relaxing weeks. The site is well cared for by the wardens Mark & Debbie and assistant wardens Simon & Sarah. they were all very pleasant, hard working and friendly. Simon and Sarah were particularly helpful when we had car trouble and we noticed that Simon helped disabled members take down their awning. We will be back!

Peaceful spot in lovely countryside.

Quiet spot in the glorious Devon countryside. Ideally placed for visits to the Plymouth area, Dartmoor, Ivybridge and the South Devon Coast. Helpful staff, and well maintained.

Site peaceful and relaxing when we visited. Access quite tricky as lanes are narrow and very busy. Staff very friendly and helpful especially Sarah who went 'over and above' to help us.

Beautiful Site

What a fantastic site!!!! So peaceful and quiet. We had our 3 granddaughters with us for part of our stay. They found more than enough to keep them amused. The Play facilities were great for them. The Wardens and Assistant Wardens were all very Pleasant and Helpful. Site was so clean and well kept. There numerous Beaches within easy reach of site and Centres such as Torquay etc are a short drive away. In all something for everybody. We will visit again.

A SUPERB SITE IN A WONDERFUL PART OF ENGLAND

We have continued to visit this site with our caravan for many years and still rate it our favourite site after 20 years of touring throughout England, Scotland & Wales. The surrounding area of The South Hams has so much to offer whatever your interest. Quaint harbours, fascinating towns like Dartmouth, Salcombe, Kingsbridge, Plymouth etc. You have a fantastic range of spectacular walks if you get you OS map out and look. These include some of the best coastal walks in England, plus, you have the whole of Dartmoor right on your doorstep. There are sandy beaches like Bigbury & Bantham right on hand with excellent surfing and opportunities for the youngsters as well. There's a well stocked shop, garage & pub within about a mile, plus Kingsbridge for everything else including two supermarkets. I could go on for ever! The site itself is very attractive with a really good variety of pitches to suite all tastes, and it is very well managed with every facility you could realistically wish for. As you will note from other reviews, the access leaves something to be desired, but if you take this into account, it's well worth the effort because this really is a gem of a site & location. There are one or two tight bends on the road leading to the site from the A38. Our advice would be to avoid morning rush hours and afternoon busy periods around 4.00pm onwards, and perhaps lunchtime. It might be worth calling the warden if you want to avoid the 12.00 arrival time! In our opinion, this is not a suitable site for motorhomes (unless you bring the car as well😒) Because you simply have to have a car to get anywhere. Yes the local lanes are narrow, with passing places, but this is South Devon, and that is what makes the area so relatively unspoilt. If you can't cope with that, head elsewhere for the big resorts in other parts of the UK and put up with the rest of the crowds who like a lot of noise and entertainment.

a brilliant quiet site for an Easter Holiday.

We have just spent a week over Easter at Modbury and it is quite the most pretty and quiet rural site. It was not at all full or cramped and we had a lovely grass pitch over looking a large grassy area. Good Wifi too. Thank goodness it has not been ruined by yet more hardstands like so many sites. The access is ok if you take it slowly and other local drivers are most considerate when passing , We visited lots of places including two nice National Trust gardens and ate out most days in places such as Totnes, Dartmouth Cothele etc, and cannot wait to go back to laid back peaceful Modbury.

Tricky access, not for walking from site & Not suitable for Motorhomers, however very peaceful once your there.

Tricky access so agree with all the other reviews on the roads to site, some single track roads and all the roads have no pavements to walk on making going for walks very difficult as the locals drive like nut cases so would not recommend walking on the roads to get anywhere. We were advised there are walks from Modbury car park & there is a 6 mile route to Modbury via a footpath if you turn left from the site but eventually you come to a field of very hungary cattle which you have to cross & followed us to end up at a 5 way junction with no other signed footpaths on, so have to walk back the cattle field to go back to where you started from with a herd of cattle that surrounded us, our dog got covered in ticks, so would not recommend this. We eventually walked back to site & turned right to the other footpath which you end up in Brownston village a small quant place with a few houses, school & church. However the footpath is very enclosed & in between hedges so not a very nice walk. Saying that though once you get here it is very peacefull and would be great for relaxing and lovely views, clean showers & families spotless, very nice wardens but due to the lack of walking opportunities I would rate it good for caravaners only as you need a car to go anywhere. We left after one night because if this. Unsure of the new brand Caravan & Motorhome club, perhaps they should separate the two or maybe us motorhomers have a separate section!
