A week in Yorkshire

Recent stay of 7 days. Very lucky to have nice weather to explore. This site is located well to travel down into the Dales and also if you don,t mind the drive even over to the lake district for different day out or just stay local. Arriving at the site take care to know where to turn off the busy A66 dual carriageway as the site is not signposted. Its location is very close to this busy road so if you like peace and quiet then get as far down the site as you can, the view is great from nearly all pitches of the countryside. Usual caravan club facilities are kept very well and the present wardens are clearly proud to keep everything tidy, nice flowers etc. Lots of wildlife in particular many birds can be seen. Lots of choices of either local shops in Richmond a few miles away or larger shopping areas not too far at all. In our experience don,t bother with internet access here through the caravan club as it was useless. The wardens did check all was working but we had no luck and are currently waiting a refund for the weeks access we paid for. This is a well used site and seemingly for many just a stop over whilst moving from north to south but it really is worth staying longer to explore the area.

Nice but not quiet

We stayed at this site, which is  Approximatley 25 miles from home, for two nights in order to try out our new awning on the motorhome. The site is Clean and tidy, but remote from nearby villages so some means of travel is needed to get out and around, we had our small tow car with us so no problems for us to run out to have a local look see, especially around Richmond and Brompton. The site is right next to the A66 and if like us you end up on a pitch near the road you will definitely hear the traffic especially in the early hours of the morning... Many wagons and cars using the road throughout the night, I am a good sleeper and it managed to keep me awake. Our pitch was on grass, pitch 16 if you check the site plan, and despite the club blurb saying "gentle sloping pitches" I would contest that the one we was on,and the neighbouring ones were a deal more than gentle. The facilities of toilets and showers are dated but kept clean and the water is nice and hot. On the whole the site is good and worth staying at for stopovers and short breaks, we don't have children with us (all grown up) but I would suggest that they would need to be good a occupying themselves as there is not a lot for them to do. Finally the site does have a dog walking area that is tidy but small and it is worth noting that there is very little opportunity to take a walk off site where your pooch can get some good exercise Without being on barrow roads. Having visited this site, we may return but would want a pitch well away from the road, and try to request a level pitch to aid set up and comfort.

First Visit to this site

We stayed on this site for the bank holiday weekend it's our first visit to this site We'll certainly be staying again, the site was spotless, yes the toilet block is dated but spotlessly clean. Next time we'll choose a pitch further down the site there is a lot of road noise from the A66, didn't spoil our stay though. Lots to see around that area Richmond is a nice market town, the castle looks really interesting but didn't have time for a visit this time.

Historic town and good stopover

We stayed on two consecutive weekends for one night each time on our way to and from Edinburgh. We found the wardens very helpful and the site clean and tidy. The toilet block is slightly dated but everything worked. The views from the site are wonderful across the Yorkshire countryside. On our return visit we went into Richmond, lovely historic town, and visited the castle (free to EH members). On both occasions we enjoyed a lovely meal in the 'Pizzaria' restaurant in Richmond. You can refuel cheaply at Morrisons in Richmond.

Lovely friendly site

Stayed here last weekend and thought it was a lovely site.  Kept spotlessly clean by the extremely friendly and helpful wardens.  Lovely views from the site.  Be careful where you pitch at top of site is adjacent to A66 so you would get a lot of road noise.  A lovely village nearby with two pubs.  Will be certainly returning.

good site shame about the warden

Would say this a good site the toilets are very clean as is the whole site. The problem i had was that we where running very late due to been held up by a bad road accident so we phoned the site to inform that we would be getting there very late to be told maybe we should have book a site closer to home then when we did get there the warden came out just about grabbed the voucher and when back to her caravan no telling us where the water was or how to get the electricity on as i said great site but customers service could be a lot better

Well worth a stopover

A very picturesque site good for a stopover or a few days break some road noise but no problem if pitching mid site or lower. Very friendly, welcoming wardens. recommend the Bay Horse Inn @ Ravensworth really good fresh home cooked grub.
