Good for families

Not happy

It was our granddaughters sixth birthday so we booked to stay at Warwick Race course for four days to spend time with our family. On arrival at the site there were several motor homes already parked in a queue at about 12.30pm. Having driven from Portsmouth it is difficult to time it precisely taking into account traffic etc. On arrival and still in my vehicle I was confronted by the lady warden informing us along with the other drivers that we had arrived too early and we should have stopped in a lay by and waited. She said she had send an email to everyone but nobody could find it. We tried to explain that it was very difficult to get precise timing and did not feel safe stopping on a motorway lay by. We noted that every day the same thing happened to other drivers arriving at the site.We were somewhat taken aback by such a tirade which we had not experienced before on other sites not a very good welcome to the site which set the tone of the stay for us and others. The next encounter with the (grumpy) warden as a few of the campers named her was when we arranged to go for a walk around the race course, which is a public area, with my son and granddaughter and her friend. On returning to the front of the site my granddaughter desperately needed to go to the toilet and we wanted to take her to our motorhome toilet which was yards away from the public fence. Again the lady warden refused outright and then subjected us to another tirade of “bodily fluids contamination lecture “ which was in front of our granddaughter and her friend.. Our granddaughter became very upset as they couldn’t understand why the lady was so angry with them. The whole episode was totally unnecessary and could have been resolved in a more reasonable and friendly manner. My wife and I fully appreciate the Rules and Regulations especially as we are in our mid 70,s but it was an unpleasant experience for us all and we would have to think very carefully about revisiting a very nice site. Arriving on time on a site is difficult but had you visited here before you would not have been able to get onto the site until the wardens unlocked the gate at 13.00.  Makes life interesting if you have to drive a large motorhome through and around Warwick but at least it allows the wardens to have a bit of lunch before everyone arrives.  Upsetting that your grandaughter couldn't use your loo, I would have taken our motorhome down to the carpark (you'd have to pay to park) but you could have given her a birthday tea at the same time.  Not having visitors to site we believe is keeping us all safe.  Looks like we will be using our onboard facilities for sometime to come but at least we can get away.  Hope you have a better experience next time you visit Warwick.
