Take a tour of France starting in the charming port town of Calais in the north to the sun-kissed coastal town of Cogolin in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. This journey will take you through the varied cities and picturesque landscapes that traverse some of the most beautiful regions in France. Explore the historic city of Versailles, discover the enchanting Loire Valley with its magnificent châteaux or enjoy the cultural diversity of the vibrant city of Avignon.

We have two suggested routes for your adventure from Calais to Cogolin. The leisurely route is ideal for those of you who have more time to explore, whilst the direct itinerary offers a quicker and shorter route.

Stopover 1: La Rivière Dorée, Île-de-France (Club ref: P24)

Calais - Amiens - Paris

  • La Rivière Dorée is a lovely, family-run campsite that is surrounded by a beautiful and peaceful natural environment, around a hour away from the capital city of Paris.
  • There are two adjoining fishing sites,the Loing and the canal. You can also paddle on the pond.
  • Visit the castle and museum in the town of Nemours, as well as the forest of Fontainebleau.
  • Families can explore the wonders of Disneyland Paris which is just over an hour from the campsite.

Visit La Rivière Dorée campsite

Orléans - Blois - Tours

  • Located near to the town of Château-Renault, L'Orangerie de Beauregard Villedomer is a small friendly campsite set in a peaceful wooded area.
  • There is an outdoor swimming pool for guests to enjoy, with a pool bar. The courtyard restaurant serves delicious, home-cooked meals, where you can also sample some of the local wines as well. 
  • Visit the town of Amboise, less than 30 minutes drive away, famous for the Château d'Amboise, the grand 15th century residence of King Charles VIII. Venture to Clos Lucé manor house where Leonardo da Vinci lived.
  • Less than a hour from the campsite is Chambord, known for the Château de Chambord, part of the Loire Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site and its unique architecture. 

Visit L'Orangerie de Beauregard Villedomer campsite

Stopover 3: Huttopia Royat, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (Club ref: L18)

Bourges - Montluçon - Vichy

  • Sat at the gateway to the Auvergne National Park with its spectacular volcanoes, Huttopia Royat is a lovely wooded campsite with plenty of walking trails.
  • There is an outdoor swimming pool, table tennis and a play area to keep the children entertained.
  • Walk to the spa town of Royat in 20 minutes and enjoy the thermal springs and see the remains of the Roman baths. 
  • 20 drive away is Vulcania, an educational amusement park and museum dedicated to volcanoes and planet Earth.
  • A visit to Puy de Dôme is a must! This dormant volcano has two hiking trails and a train leading to the summit. There's also a visitor centre and paragliding.

  • The family owned campsite of Le Mas de Nicolas boasts large, well-kept pitches and an outdoor heated swimming pool for guests to enjoy during their stay.
  • Located just 15 minutes walk from the lively town of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence where there is a multitude of attractions to discover. Explore Glanum, the Roman Archeology Site, enjoy winery tours and of course a visit to the Musée Estrine, the museum dedicated to the life and works of Vincent Van Gogh.
  • A tour of Provence wouldn't be complete without a visit to one of the many sprawling lavender fields. There are dedicated lavender festivals in the summer months as well.
  • Spend the day in Arles and see the magnificent Arles Amphitheatre, inspired by the famous Colosseum in Rome, this two-tiered ancient Roman monument is one of the most prominent tourist attractions.

Provence - Cannes - Cogolin

  • Set in the heart of the gulf of Saint Tropez, L'Argentière is a stunning campsite with a natural, green backdrop.
  • There are several pools, water slides, a whirlpool and a paddling pool for children. Enjoy entertainment and leisure activities available on-site, as well as two dining areas and a bar area.
  • Just under a mile away is the town of Cogolin, where you can visit the Domaine de la Giscle winery or explore the Château de Grimaud castle.
  • Enjoy the beautiful coastal town of Saint Tropez, around 20 minutes drive from the campsite. Famous for its glitz and glamour, including its famous Pampelonne beach, Saint-Tropez also has a charming history to be discovered in the cobbled streets of the Old Town.
  • Visit the lakeside town of Port Grimaud, known as the 'Venice of the South of France', it was designed and built in the 1960s and is considered a great example of architectural achievement.

Visit L'Argentière campsite

Stopover 1: Le Lac d'Orient, Grand-Est (Club ref: J07)

  • Located in the Forêt d’Orient Regional Park, Le Lac d'Orient is well-maintained and is a popular stopover for those travelling to the south of France.
  • Onsite there is a pool complex with a paddling area and water slides. Just 100m from the campsite is a large lake with pedaloes and kayaks available for hire, as well as a sailing school.
  • Head to the medieval town of Troyes, home to several Gothic churches with striking stained-glass windows, including the Troyes Cathedral, the Église Sainte-Madeleine and the Basilique Saint-Urbain.
  • Just over an hour's drive away is the city of Châlons-en-Champagne, referred to as 'Little Venice' and famed for its hillside vineyards which produce some of the finest champagne in France.
  • Spend the day in Aube's flagship amusement park, Nigloland, with 37 attractions spanning across 4 amazing worlds, it's a fun-filled day out for kids of all ages.

Stopover 2: Bel'Epoque du Pilat, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (Club ref: M20)

Dijon - Mâcon - Lyon

  • Located in peaceful countryside, Bel'Epoque du Pilat is set in the heart of the dramatic Pilat natural regional park.
  • Relax by the swimming pool with its inviting sun terrace and enjoy a drink at the bar or a meal at the on-site restaurant.
  • Enjoy the views from many of the hikes and trails in the Pilat Regional Nature Park, that spans across the Loire and the Rhône areas.
  • Just 15 minutes drive from the campsite is the village of Malleval where you can experience the sights of the Saut de Lorette waterfall or visit the historic chapel of Notre-Dame de Pitié.
  • Head on a day trip to the city of Lyon, capital to the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, known for its historical and architectural landmarks including the Roman Amphithéâtre des Trois Gaules. In recent years, Lyon has developed a reputation as France's culinary capital.

Valence - Avignon - Provence

  • L'Argentière is a gorgeous campsite surrounded by luscious, natural scenery, situated in the heart of the gulf of Saint Tropez.
  • With multiple swimming pools with water slides, there is also a whirlpool and a small paddling pool for younger children. Take advantage of the two on-site dining areas and bar as well as the entertainment and leisure activities.
  • The town of Cogolin is less than a mile away from the campsite, where you can explore the Château de Grimaud castle or visit the Domaine de la Giscle winery.
  • Take in the stunning coast of Saint Tropez, which is around a 20 minutes drive from the campsite. Whilst Saint Tropez is known for its glamour and elegance, including the famous Pampelonne beach, the Old Town's cobbled streets reveal the town's original history.
  • Visit the lakeside town of Port Grimaud, referred to as the 'Venice of the South of France'. Constructed in the 1960s, it is regarded as a magnificent example of modern architecture.
