Why stay here ...

Our CL is a tranquil site set on a small holding in the countryside, which is part of the Tamar Valley A.N.O.B Cornwall. Adults, children and pets are all welcome. The site itself stands on its own at the top of a large field, this is flat with electric hook ups, and plenty of space. There is also a separate toilet and sink. The site is an excellent base for exploring the surrounding area, with Cotehele House and walks through stunning countryside, all within easy reach. We have a Donkey park which is a 10 minute walk away and you can also take an organised canoe trip on the river Tamar. We have two Public Houses in the village and they both serve food. The near by town of Tavistock  (which is in Devon and only 10 minutes drive) has Supermarkets, resturants, Historic Buildings an indoor Panier market, a Cinema, Swimming pool and Tennis courts. There is a bus stop nearby and the Railway Station to Plymouth is one mile away. The train from Cornwall into Plymouth takes 45 minutes and takes you over the Calstock Viaduct. We are very close to the Cornwall and Devon boarder, you can reach Lands End (the tip of Cornwall) in under two hours, the Eden Project in 45 minutes, so you can see we are very central.

All-weather track now installed.

The site has easy access. As a previous reviewer remarked, try not to be put off by the graveyard of caravans which lead you into a very nice and peaceful cl. Water and recycling on this site. There is 1 working toilet with sink at the bottom of the track, which was very clean and well stocked with paper and towels, be aware that the rough gravel outside the loo is prone to flooding. We were very disappointed and somewhat surprised to see that the shower and second toilet is still not finished from 2 years ago according to comments on other reviews. If you can put up with using your own shower then £15 pn is good value. If not then check when booking as we should have done.

Relaxing spot

South View
We have just had 2 nights here and were not disappointed. The field is a good size surrounded by hedges which reduced the wind on a breezy day with well cut grass. It was quiet at night despite being next to the road which was busy during the day. The Tawney owl was out the other night which was nice to hear. The site was clean and tidy and nice to see recycling facilities available to use next to the fresh water tap and bin. The toilet had soap, toilet paper and hand towels. We have stayed in some that don't. The showers will be great when they are finished but not an issue for us as we have a shower on board. The Carpenter's Arms in Metherell was just about to start doing food again after a kitchen refurb so we did not eat there. It had a good community feel to it and does quiz nights and live music. The site is very handy for visiting Calstock and Cotehele both of which can be walked to from the site. Hosts Nikki and Chris were very friendly. We are already looking at when we can come back for a few days as this is great for a short break away.

Great Owners /Decent site

South View
All, Stayed at South View single axle caravan 2 occupants Aug 2021. Easy place to find [dont use sat nav]. Easy access into a large field [not the campsite] along a track past some rustic farm machinery/vehicles. The CL field is fairly large plenty of room for 5 set ups. Surrounded by hedges which restricts the view...but also protects the field from wind [you cant have both]. A water tap and grey waste in the corner for all to use as is the recycle area for waste. Electric hook ups on the edges of the field. No shower[s] but being built right now....single toilet..a second being built right now too i believe. No pot wash [not sure if one is being built?]. Chemical waste yes. Would we stay again........yes we would defo...great owners Chris [and Knikki]...great location for sight seeing/walks/NT locations/shops/fuel. No WIFI [not that I knew of]. 8/10 It worked great for us. Thank you guys....

A Peaceful and Relaxing Stay in the Tamar Valley

South View
Myself, my husband and our dog have just spent 8 nights at South View and we can heartily recommend this small, friendly site. The owners, Niccy and Chris were super friendly and helpful, taking time to chat and provide information about all of the local beauty spots and walks. The camping field was enclosed by bird friendly hedging and trees, providing a serene feel and plenty of birdsong. There is a handy water tap in the field along with bins and recycling facilities. The toilet and sink is closer to the entrance to site and was always clean and equipped with plenty of loo roll. We loved the local area; if you like walking, kayaking or cycling, there is plenty to explore within the local vicinity to keep you busy for a week! The walk from site, down a wooded stream to Calstock (such a stunning place) was simply beautiful as was walking to Cotehele (National Trust property) and around its grounds. Kayaking on the Tamar was a great experience, we put in at Cotehele Quay and paddled to Morwellham Quay - make sure you get the tide times right! Further afield we walked on Dartmoor and visited Looe. If you wanted more trips out, there are plenty of fabulous places accessible from the site but in the current climate, we were more than happy to enjoy the glorious local scenery. We enjoyed Tuesday Steak Night at the local Carpenter's Arms, fish and chips from Dave's just outside Gunnislake and the food and beer from the Tamar Inn in nearby Calstock which is sited right on the quay and has glorious views of the river. Thanks Niccy and Chris for a lovely holiday and for making us and Meg so welcome!
