Why stay here ...

Our CL is a tranquil site, set on a small holding in the countryside, which is part of the Tamar Valley A.N.O.B Cornwall. Adults, children and pets are all welcome. The site        itself stands on its own at the top of a large field, this is flat with electric hook ups,  and plenty of space. There is also a separate toilet and sink. The site is an excellent base for exploring the surrounding area, with Cotehele House and walks through stunning countryside, all within easy reach. We have a Donkey park which is a 10 minute walk away and you can also take an organised canoe trip on the river Tamar. We have two Public Houses in the village and they both serve food. The near by town of Tavistock  (which is in Devon and only 10 minutes drive) has Supermarkets, resturants, Historic Buildings an indoor Panier market, a Cinema, Swimming pool and Tennis courts. There is a bus stop nearby and the Railway Station to Plymouth is one mile away. The train from Cornwall into Plymouth takes 45 minutes and takes you over the Calstock Viaduct. We are very close to the Cornwall and Devon boarder, you can reach Lands End (the tip of Cornwall) in under two hours, the Eden Project in 45 minutes, so you can see we are very central.

All weather track now installed.

Fun on the river

We visited this lovely CL in July 18. On arrival we received a warm welcome from Chris & Nikki, Chris showed us to his well kept camping field, we were very surprised to find we were the only caravan on site considering the time of year, and the good facilities. We took our canoe to use on the Tamar, which we found quite easy to launch from the slipway at Calstock and FREE parking, paddled up river past Morwellham Quay and on through some beautiful countryside. Short walk from the site found great little local pub ( The Carpenters Arms ) bustling on Friday night. We'll be back. CLs USE THEM OR LOOSE THEM

Short week end or longer visit

We stayed at South View for a week end during July 2014, living in Plymouth makes this CL an easy to reach spot for a calming week end away. Driving to the site is easy along about ½ a mile of good width lanes without any major bends to contend with. Mrs Legg met us when we arrived and made us feel welcome pointing out local areas of interest, the site has a few chickens running about and a very friendly turkey also. Grass was cut short and the CL field was well set out, the CL has a toilet which is basic but very clean. If you tend to watch TV reception was good,  Vodafone & O2 / Tesco mobile had 3G. Within walking distance of Cotehele house / Cotehele quay and along to Calstock with great river views on route. Walking out from the site away from Cotehele is the donkey park about ten minutes walk and further away is Kit hill which is about four miles away with a cafe on route serving a good range of food and drinks. All in all a good base for a short week end or ideal for longer visits within easy driving distance of Tavistock, Calington and east Cornwall or Plymouth.

Have fun up by the Tamar River

Excellent site for a CL with a good sized open space ELUs and views, WC complete with WHB. This is on the borders of Devon and Cornwall near the upper navigable reaches of the Tamar river. Handy spot to visit Calstock viaduct or Cothele House and walks in their wonderful woodland. Gunnislake or Calstock branch line stations are nearby which gives the opportunity to visit the villages (including Bere Ferrers railway museum) further south and on towards Plymouth. We did see a bus and managed to walk to two pubs.

Very Friendly and welcoming

We spent one night here in October 2013. The purpose of our visit was to see our daughter sing in Calstock. The weather hadn't been great (very wet) and we had a bit of trouble getting in the field, but once in, all was well. The owners were very welcoming and helpful, giving us good directions to walk into Calstock. This was a lovely walk. Very quiet and peaceful CL site. Unfortunately we were stuck good and proper the next day but were successfully pulled out - thank you. Hopefully the next time we come, the weather will be kinder to us.
