Sleepless nights

A lovely site beautifully placed on the Chatsworth estate in an area where there is loads to do. We have been there 3 times now and each visit has presented a challenge. The first one was marred by the rookery and the sheep - they both wake up early. That's fine as that's what you get in a wooded parkland area. The second visit presented a pitching challenge which could only be resolved by pushing the van into place. That's fine as well as I ought to cough up for a motor mover. Our 3rd visit was last weekend for 3 nights. All through the night our sleep was interrupted by a sound that was like a mix between a cattle market and Jurassic Park. Given that the Estate sells wild-boar burgers I googled the sound of such beasts and there was a similarity. So, does the Estate rear it's own boar? Are they close to the site (we were pitched on the House side of the site)? Either way, can't his Lordship find a spot away from the Club site as I'm sure he charges a hansome fee to the Club for use of the site? Of course, the noises might emanate from a Jurassic Park revival and that would be a fantastic new attraction and all would be forgiven :-)

The deer are free to roam over much of the estate. You can't really contain them in a remote area. Often the noise comes from the area the other side of the river, if you are lucky towards sundown you can even see them putting their heads back and bellowing. I don't think it would matter where you pitched. At this time of year it is something you just have to accept. As with the rooks and the sheep, it is just part of the varied tapestry of the countryside.

It never ceases to amaze me how many members decide to caravan in the countryside and then moan about countryside sounds. Rooks do make sounds, sheep baa, deer do rut, ducks quack, etc. Chatsworth is set in a lovely country estate and that that is where such animals live. Perhaps a good set of  earplugs might be a good investment for EB if such sounds are an issue. We visit at least three times a year and never have had any reason to consider such sounds as a irritant, but quite the opposite and think how lucky  are to hear such sounds of nature

Sorry, but again I feel that such sounds are an indication of where we are staying which is the beautiful estate of Chatsworth, and feel it a privilege to be able to see and hear the deer, and all the other wildlife that live there !!!!!

Thanks for your replies.  I hadn't realised that it was rutting season.  I certainly wasn't moaning, Saab93 & GrandpaGraham - please re-read my entry.  Thanks, Whittakker.

We will be going to this marvellous site again next weekend for the fireworks ๐Ÿงจ  and then a fortnight later for the Christmas fair and the house decorations ๐ŸŽ„Not to mention the very best farm shop. Why would you even moan slightly about birds, ducks, and the deer it’s THEIR HOME too. I for one will be delighted to hear and see them all. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Hi Dennis.  We all moan slightly at times don't we?  The deer rutted all through the night (unlike the ducks, and other birds) so pitch nearer to the wardens if you can as it might be quitter at that end else, whilst it is their home, you'll look forward to sleeping again at yours wink  (BTW, enjoy your visits) smile
