Motorhome access

Excellent wardens, first class site and facilities but if you drive a motorhome that you want to take out daily, then think again. Road access is a nightmare. Others have expressed their concerns and I can only agree. I would not advise anybody who wants a restful holiday to venture on these access roads, with a motorhome, on a daily basis. OK for caravan owners who only have to get in and out once, but others beware.

Happy Easter

Just returned home after a fantastic 5 nights on this brilliant site. Excellent pitches with ample room Facilities are spotless, wardens are very helpful and friendly. This was our second visit and certainly will not be our last. Just wish it was 100 miles closer to home!!

Thank you wardens

This site is small and quiet with several long stay caravans on seasonal pitches and is run by a particularly good team of wardens, who were friendly and full of helpful information. We had a good chat with the new assistant wardens who have put a lot of effort with the wardens into uplifting this site for the 2017 season. Modbury (try the Modbury Inn for good well priced food) is conveniently close and further out is Salcome, Dartmouth and Wembury plus all the Nat Trust walking areas and Overbecks, which was great. We had a lovely 5 days here. This was our second visit. The access lane has passing places for a couple of miles but we still had to reverse both on our arrival and departure to pass trucks. This is because on a couple of bends you cannot see far enough forward to know whether to stay in the passing place. Even though my reversing skills are improving - doing so in narrow deep sided lanes while the truck follows you backwards risks damage to the van and so this aspect may put us off revisiting which will be a great shame as the site is central to so many wonderful areas to visit and walk. If a better approach can be found or those blind corners could be developed the site will continue to be a real winner.

Dog Lovers Paradise

We recently stayed at Modbury and found the site very well maintained, clean and good facilities. The dog walk area is a dog lovers paradise, fenced in and a huge area. The access road is okay if you take your time and expect others coming towards you and we have a 9 metre motorhome. Overall very pleasing and extremely friendly wardens.. #a hidden gem and well kept secret

Great site

Just returned from 5 glorious days at Modbury. The site was very quite which added to our enjoyment. The facilities although very dated where clean and efficient. The site was extremely well manicured despite some heavy showers. The Wardens (Janet and Peter I think) where brilliant and we both very sorry for them the day following a power cut as they clearly had not got much sleep. The area is truly amazing and we had a great time, we where so lucky with the weather, we always seemed to be driving on wet roads but didn't see much rain! The only down side to our visit was the access roads which are very narrow, in both the inbound and outbound journey to the site we met Artics which meant having to reverse, which is very problematic with a 8.9 metre motorhome towing Daphne (a bright yellow Peugeot 107).  The main topic of conversation between the few guests in site was the narrow access.  The site book does make reference to narrow lanes with passing places and the narrowest does have No Articulated Vehicle signs but there is a small industrial complex nearby hence the Artics.  We ask used this road in Daphne 5 times and in each we met large vehicles.  In summary lovely area and good site but we will not be returning to Modbury CC site because of the access issues. Shame but there are lots of other sites without this issue.

Perfect!

Just returned from four nights at Modbury. Brilliant from start to finish. Great area to explore but don't try visiting Overbecks in your outfit! Extremely steep approach and narrow so thankful we had the mini. Assistant wardens were great - welcoming, efficient and with a great sense of humour! Certainly is a narrow approach to the site and we met the biggest Lorry in Devon but managed to squeeze through with no problem. Very quiet on site so a very relaxed and peaceful stay. Whole site beautifully maintained and clean. Will definitely return

September Holiday

Modbury CC site is wonderfully quiet and peaceful. The facilities are kept spotless and are a credit to the Wardens. We had a lovely sunny corner pitch and enjoyed watching the wildlife and, as always, chatting to other friendly club members. The route in between Kittaford Cross and California Cross was a bit scary due to narrow sections but we left early on our departure day and had no problems at all. We enjoyed our holiday.

Excellent site

The site is well spread out with small groups of patches separated by shrubs which coupled with the fact that many pitches seemed to be seasonal means that it is very quiet. There is an excellent shop in Modbury but parking could be difficult if towing. In a motorhome though Modbury provides a choice of routes which avoid the main one referred to in other reports when things ground to a halt as two caravans tried to pass each other at an unlucky spot...As for walking to/from Modbury this is easily done off road or on a very quiet road following an OS map. There is a national cycle route nearby which is excellent.

First CC visit

This was our very first CC site visit and was recommended to us. We were very impressed with the cleanliness of the facilities and loved the location. The wardens were friendly and helpful and we would now highly recommend this site too!

Enjoyable 14 Nights

Lovely site, well kept as we expect CC sites to be. Toilet block is in need of a makeover but was always clean & well kept. Road from the A38 is narrow but with care is no problem. The lanes around this part of Devon can be challenging due to being so narrow, my wife & I were travelling down one when we went over a narrow hump back bridge & came face to face with a refuse truck, I was very happy I didn't need to reverse far before the driver turned off the lane. On the whole a very enjoyable holiday & would go back. Don't be put off by narrow lanes, if you don't like the narrows stick to the A roads, you'll have no problems.
