Over Zealous Warden

My husband and I booked 2 nights at Penrhos CC site on Angelsey. We live about an hour plus away, we checked the traffic and set off according to arrive by or after 1pm. However the traffic flowed quickly and we got to the site about 14 minutes before one o'clock , unable to stop on A55 as the laybys were full, when we turned off for Penrhos via Marian Glas, we only found one suitable layby which was no unauthorised parking, which we certainly wouldn't use as it was a cemetery parking, there were a couple of laybys on the opposite side of road occupied by vans. We turned into site off a busy road, the site is located in between bends, as we turned at the point of no return, we saw the home made signs about no arrival before 1pm We then thought we could pull over on driveway but the only pull in had bollards across an empty fenced off area We proceeded to arrivals point, we knew we were about 14 to 12 minutes early. We were confronted by a younger male warden, who spoke aggressively to my husband to turn round, we were towing and to go down the road to a layby which weren't available when we passed, his attitude was not good, however the day was saved by his partner or wife who asked us to check in. She was fine, I asked her why the problem, we were not in a rush to book in, just couldn't see the logic of leaving the site, accessing a busy road with limited vision from the site for being slightly early, we are not in a habit of trying to get in early but we were shocked at the aggressive treatment especially when the club official signs say croeso or welcome. It was some welcome and had the female warden not diffused the situation, we would have cancelled and moved to another site. I asked her why we had to leave site before 1pm and was told due to emergency vehicles getting in, so I take it then at 1pm when in the summer there are queues, how do the emergency vehicles get passed, or does the club gets helicopters in?? We were the only arrivals at that time. Maybe people should be pushed forward opposite toilets where 4 units could easily be accommodated if needed or drive widened as there is room We were surprised at the home made signs We noticed that the site, especially the grass isn't as well maintained, and we also noticed that it was the elder warden in the motorhome who seemed to be doing all the work, in fairness toilets were clean but letting only 2 people at a time was poor, other sites with smaller facilities let in 4. We have been members for a while and in all honesty have not met such rudeness. At the end of the day we are customers and expect better treatment, so I feel the club need to sort this out, people travel huge journeys and shouldn't have this treatment on arrival, understand arriving 30 minutes plus. Think the warden needs customer dealing course. Get Outlook for Android

Enjoyable stay

We stayed at Penrhos for the two weeks beginning the 15th August 2020 when the site first opened. This is a great site for visiting Anglesey. The new toilet block is great and modern - in terms of the wrist band system that is in operation (I assume for all sites) it seemed quite strange that only three toilets and three showers were available to use in the ladies. two for mens i.e you potentially had to walk into a cubicle someone had just walked out of to use the shower etc. I didn't feel that comfortable with that aspect due to being in a small place with the current pandemic. We were really pleased the site had managed to open following the work and I didn't really notice any weeds etc but the major bug bear I have is that the grass is kept too long. It was like this on arrival and during all of our stay. I noticed the warden cut the grass but didn't notice the length change! I've noticed this issue on other club sites so maybe the CMC could address this. You feel like you are walking through an overgrown field to get to the park and some pitches that are offset from the road. One thing that disappointed me on site was that other members, young and old felt the need to drive quite fast around the site. It was school holidays and young children were out on bikes and it felt quite dangerous. Then they slowed right down for the speed bumps! We were on site during Storm Erin and Storm Francis. There were several people who felt they needed to move their cars to help protect their awnings etc and the wardens seemed very accommodating to this which was good. I was pleased to see the wardens operating a strict no arrivals prior to 1pm. I hope this is the new norm at CMC sites. Its annoying that some people want to arrive before the permitted time. Overall, this is a lovely site for families and couples. I have been several times over a ten year period, with and without children. You can sometimes hear children playing on the site next door. Penrhos is great for accessing the beaches at Benllech and LLigwy (thank to the lady warden for recommending LLigwy to us).

Uneasy visit

*** I cannot edit the star review. Basically 3stars overall.***

We have been visiting Penrhos site for quite a few years and have always enjoyed our stay. Previous wardens were always polite and accommodating. This time we had a different experience with ONE member of the team. Quite rightly, due to the narrow track to the site caravanners are asked to wait until 1pm and we fully understand that. Hence our need to park on a nearby lay-by until around 12.50. We approached the site to see two caravans in front of us on the track waiting. Vehicles leaving the site were having a problem but coping. We had to turn in behind the two earlier caravans as we were on a busy corner. By this time it was almost 1pm. Soon after that the two earlier caravans moved forward to the reception and a vehicle entering the site moved off. At this point the said warden marched down to us and spoke to us through our car window explaining that we were causing an obstruction ! “What you are going to do is enter the site turn round and come back at 1.30pm. “ We simply could not believe what he was saying. We began pointing out that two vehicles had been in front of us and had move to reception with apparently no decision to make them turn and then return. “ You are breaking the law and I can make you do this” was his answer to our request to be less aggressive. His attitude was unacceptable under any circumstances. He then moved to the vehicle behind, presumably to have a go at them. I totally understand the need to state 1pm entry to the site but the circumstances were such that we were third in line at 12.55 after a 3 hour journey and having parked up nearby prior to entering the site. I asked the occupants of one of the previous cars if they had been reprimanded and she said no. Was it necessary to be so aggressive and attempting to humiliate my elderly husband? (75) I hope nobody else has to encounter such rudeness. This set the tone for the first few days of the holiday and upset both of us. Going forward a few constructive criticisms. 1. A step up to the disabled washroom needs replacing with a ramp at the front of the new building. There are ramps but the very long way round. 2. Lack of waste bins particularly for the visitors on the small quadrangle area. None available on that area whatsoever. 3. In the current times keep a closer eye on checking the toilets, no toilet rolls on a couple of occasions. 4. The band system only works if people adher to it. Sadly quite a number of people chose not to do so. Wardens responsibility to mention this to people not complying when pointed out to them. 5 Understandably the staff have been busy prior to opening but the site is looking rather unkempt in places. Give them the benefit of the doubt on this issue as times have been unusual for the site. All in all a disappointing start to our holiday and one that I sincerely hope people in similar circumstances do not have to encounter.

Good location but not the usual club site feel

16th - 23rd August 2020 A family of four we visited this site on our first trip to Anglesey following an 8 nights stay at Coed-Y-Llwyn site, Snowdonia the previous week. We found the site relatively easy using the clubs route planner and arrived on the second day the site was open for the season following redevelopment of the shower block. Upon booking in I was advised by the warden that they were asking everyone to wear face masks on site, though we did not see a single person wearing one the whole week. I was advised that there were a few pitches available but the ones behind the reception which looked in a nice, flat secluded area would best suit people who do not have children as most people without children go there. We ended up on a pitch at the highest area of the site backing onto a field from the site next door. The roads around the site were very narrow so opposite pitches were closer than normal making reversing onto the pitch difficult, the pitch was a hardstanding but the gravel was quite raised up from the road luckily we have a motor mover so we could un-hitch steer into position in that way as we could not have pushed the caravan up the steep gravel. The grass around all pitches and the whole site in general was really long and looked very untidy, which looked bad as this was only the second day of the season for the site. The only area that seemed to get mowed was the dog walk area. During the week storm Ellen hit and the area we were in was battered by the winds, a pitch opposite us lost its entire awning which was destroyed in the middle of the night and we had to stay in for most of one day to protect ours so I would highly recommend avoiding that area. The site would benefit with some taller bushes around that perimeter to provide some protection the same as it has around the lower areas. The last 2 days were very noisy with a group in the field of the site behind us being literally feet away. There was no hand sanitiser at the service points and no bins, all rubbish had to be taken down to industrial bins close to the entrance of the site. The wardens were rarely seen anywhere on site the whole week we were there, the only contact we had with any of them was when we returned to site one afternoon and had to queue behind two new arrivals at the site entrance and were pointed at to move out of the way by a warden on the mower who wanted to pass us but returned no thankyou or acknowledgement for us moving. After 4 years as club members this felt least like we were on a club site by a long way. We enjoyed Anglesey and would like to go back but would chose either the other club site on the island or possibly one of the many CL's to stay at.

Great 10 days exploring Anglesey

We enjoyed our 10 day stay on Anglesey at the end of August/beginning of September. The entrance to the site is a narrow single lane only, with No arrivals before 1300hrs rigidly applied due to the access width and to reduce the risk of encountering caravans which are leaving as you are arriving. Those that choose to ignore the 1300hrs arrival time, and then have problems, only have themselves to blame, particularly when there are plenty of large lay-bys on the main road approaching to and from Benllech. Overall the site is clean, and well organised with service areas including water, bins, recycling and chemical disposal. There is only one toilet/amenities block, which is getting dated, but is kept immaculately clean. I am not sure how the A special mention to the staff who were all cheerful, polite and helpful. We chose a hard standing pitch around a cul-de-sac loop. We enjoyed walking directly from the site, along the green lane and then exploring along various footpath routes. When we were visiting the weather was a mixed bag of wet and windy, interspersed with sunny periods. We looked at the weather forecast and often found travelling a few miles provided nicer days out, including watching red squirrels in the Forest, and sandy walks along the beach at Red Wharf Bay and Rhosneigr.

Fantastic site for families

We stayed here for the first part of our family holiday in July. The site staff were fantastic and the site is well laid out. We chose a pitch near the playing field so that our children could have easy access. This was a risk due to noise but the site fell quite between 9 and 10 every-night. The toilet block, although old, was in a very good state and was always clean with plenty of hot water. I was concerned after reading a number of reviews about the facilities but They were unfounded in my opinion. We did have one issue. When we arrived we had an issue with the fact that a previous tenant of the pitch had let their dog pee all over the hardstanding where the awning was set-up. This cause a horrid stink inside the awning. I mentioned this to the site staff who advised a course of action and were very apologetic. After spreading over 200 ltrs of water on the site, the smell eventually began to subside. Not great ecologically but it was the only solution. Owners please don't let your dog pee on the hardstanding!

Looking dated

Spent a week here after the Bank Holiday. We were last here in 2009 and been here another 5 times over the years. Since our last visit, serviced pitches have been introduced but why couldn't they have been made level at the construction stage? Whilst all facilities seemed OK, the toilet blocks are looking tired with some mould in the showers and rusty pipework - urgently in need of an update. My wife commented that the showers had irregular water temperature but the gents' facilities were OK. Whilst there's nothing the club can do about traffic, members should be prepared for delays when crossing the bridges to get on and off the island. We weren't there at a peak period but it was very frustrating when planning day trips on the mainland.

Enjoyable stay

We only stayed here for one night, but it was easy to find & in a great location to explore Anglesey. Only comment we would have was the Motorhome service point was not very accessible especially for larger motorhomes.

Lovely site and friendly wardens

Had a lovely 10 night stay with our 6 month old and two year old infants and dog recently. Site is very well kept by the wardens , beautiful flowers and herb garden. Wardens very friendly some of the nicest we have come across, pitches were well looked after mown each day and weeded. excellent secure play park for our two year old with a large grassy area to play . The dog run/ field is also great with mown paths and secure fencing. The toilet block does need updating. However the showers are clean and very powerful/ hot. Site well Placed for some lovely beaches. Some great historic ruins also nearby that are well worth a visit !
