Great location - peaceful, walks straight from the site, dog friendly

We stayed here last autumn for one night on the way home from Scotland and were determined to return as soon as possible. We’ve just spent 3 nights at High Farm (23rd - 25th May) and had a great time, even in the rain! The site was full for two of the nights but the five units were all well spaced out. We’d booked the hard standing (there are two, one is next to the water tap, we had the one by the fence) in advance as we are in a campervan and after all the rain of the last two months we were worried about getting stuck. So we rocked up and went walking. There’s a lovely easy walk into Helmsley (8 / 9 miles return) which goes via the Duncombe Estate, a bonus being the beautiful vast glades of bluebells. We also did a circular walk from the farm out to the Rollgate escarpment - far ranging views. The site is dog friendly and our two loved lounging on the grass. The views are vast and stunning, with plenty of birdsong and farmyard animals. Definitely a 10/10 site.

Lovely site

We stayed here at the beginning of September for 4 nights, on our way to Scotland. Although most pitches are grass, it seems to drain quite well. We were at the top end of the field, so it was slightly downhill for us to the exit, and we had no problems getting off, despite heavy rain the night before. The far-reaching views from the site give it a lovely open feel. We found it very convenient for getting out on mountain bikes onto the moors, we did a long circular route right from the site. We would certainly stay here again.

Peace and quiet in the moors

Nicely laid out lawned site slightly sloping from north to south with a hard standing opposite site entrance. The site is well maintained and we can fully recommend the free range eggs. There is WiFi available at the site which means this review has been written whilst at the site. There are plenty of walks direct from the site either onto Pockley moor or around the quiet lanes in the area. TV reception is excellent with the main transmission aerial to the NNW of the site. This is a site we will return to assuming we have no further restrictions placed on us by the government. If you are worried about COVID 19 the cleaning regime implemented at the site is very efficient and the site layout allows ample social distancing. In short this is a welcoming, well run ,well located friendly site

What a view!

it may be us (!) but we found the farm difficult to locate, but once there the field for the 5 caravans was well laid out and with great views high above the local area of Ryedale. Very friendly family running the farm. Great to have WiFi and appreciated the sole use of the loo/shower room as we have no facilities in our caravan. Our visit was, unfortunately, during high winds and rain in this exposed spot, but we enjoyed the local towns of Helmsley and Pickering and a jaunt onto the moors to see the steam trains. Next time in better weather we hope!

Well worth a visit, great place & Ailsa was welcoming & very helpful.

Arrived home from High Farm a few days ago after spending 10 nights there. Due to Covid19 we didn't know how things would be on site or in the area. We were pleasantly surprised, the welcome from Ailsa was first class, booking in over the phone made it contactless if that suited you. Plot number given and away we went to the pitch. Obviously protocols had to be followed but with no constant reminders. The information sheets sent with the booking confirmation etc. were really great, helpful and informative. The field was well cut grass and the attention to getting the vacated pitch ready for the next visitor was very efficient. There are 6 pitches but only to allow the airing of the vacated pitch, Ailsa never has more than 5 vehicles at once. The eggs available from the box are well worth the cost and we've never had such good eggs in years. The selling of the eggs is a venture by Ailsa's young children. If your into walking then, the walks from site are excellent and the views at the end of the track to the left when leaving the field speak for themselves. Yes, we will be returning.

A peaceful site with spectacular views!

We spent four nights on this beautiful site on the southern edge of the North York Moors. The views are truly spectacular - you must be able to see for 30 miles. The site is well maintained with grass that is better than our lawn at home! Ailsa sent a comprehensive email before we came and visited the van to greet us after we had settled onto our pitch. We had booked the only hard standing on the site for our motorhome, but other motorhomes were parked on the short grass and had no trouble moving despite quite a bit of rain. The site's website gives a link to several walks up onto the moors and in the surrounding countryside. We did the shortest of these and were rewarded with further amazing views from the triangulation station on top of the ridge above the farm. The site is only a couple of miles from the lovely market town of Helmsley with its Birds of Prey Centre at Duncombe Park, as well as an abbey and a castle, both English Heritage. Sadly the latter two were closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but we did visit the birds of prey and watch an impressive display.

Wonderful CL in a fabulous location

We've just returned from three nights on High Farm and can't praise it highly enough. As has already been noted in other reviews it is at the end of the road so is extremely peaceful with no passing traffic (apart from the odd tractor coming & going!). It's a decent size field with EHU's down one side and services at the end of the site - a bathroom is nearing completion and will be a great additional feature once completed. There are wonderful views to the west and the south - walk a mile further up the track to reach a trig point which also provides far reaching views of the moors. The sire offers WiFi which is another bonus and shows that Ailsa & Ian are clearly committed to updating their site and making it even better than it already is. Our only note of caution concerns Google Maps - while the website correctly shows the location of the farm using the postcode, the app on the phone has it elsewhere which led to us driving a couple of miles up the wrong track and then having to do a twenty point turn in a farm yard. Follow the instructions into Pockley but as you come to the end of the village turn right following the sign to Beadlam & Beadlam Rigg and then turn left onto a single track road that takes you (logically) past Low Farm & Middle Farm before reaching High Farm. That minor point aside, this is a wonderful CL which we can't recommend too highly - we'll be back!

A hidden gem

High Farm is literally at the end of a road making it a really ‘quiet’ CL with only the occasional farm vehicle going by. Communication with Ailsa is very good and she is very welcoming. Easy access through a wide gate. The pitches are spacious, sunny and with great long distance views. There are many walking and on/off cycling opportunities from the site. Or it could be used as a base for visiting the various attractions in this area of the North York Moors. A toilet and shower are under construction and will be an added bonus. But even without them this would be on our return to list! Highly recommended as a peaceful, relaxing site - a true CL!

Still perfect!

Well, we did come back and stayed for three weeks this time and still didn’t want to go home. This site is so lovely and a great representation of the CL network. There is plenty of room to spread out, two water taps, excellent CD facility, waste and recycling. There is an enormous entrance for even the largest outfit. In all the time we were staying the only vehicle we passed on our daily going & coming to the main road was a caravan leaving as were arriving. The views from the site are very far reaching and the walk up to the top of Beadlam Rigg is rewarded with amazing 360’ views. We had a wonderful holiday and feel we’ve only just scratched the surface of things to do and see. Oh - and most importantly - Ailsa, Ian and the children are delightful. Do check out their web site and FB page for more info.

Perfect peaceful site with panoramic views

We have just returned from 6 fantastic nights on this site. Ideal location for a peaceful rural and quiet holiday. The views are amazing as are the starry nights. All pitches can enjoy longs hours of sunshine if the weather permits. We enjoyed walking from the site up into the moors where there are many different paths and the quiet lanes are also a good walking option. Only a very short drive takes you to the lovely villages of Hutton le Hole and Helmsley. Highly recommended!
