Good location

A well run club site with very friendly, helpful wardens. The facilities are very clean and well maintained, but they could do with updating - i.e. more showers and larger cubicles.  Newspapers can be ordered in advance at weekends and picked up from 8.30am on Saturdays and Sundays. Hot croissants and baguettes are also available at these times at the weekend. It is well located within walking distance of Cheddar village and the Gorge (ask about the pedestrian route avoiding the busy road without footpaths) and it is close to the start of the Strawberry Line cycle route.

Lovely well run busy site in great location

Really good location just outside Cheddar village and easy walking to the gorge. It's quite busy with quite a turnover of people staying just a few days but we found loads to do for a week around here. I agree with another review that the facilities need improving , they are very clean as always but the cubicles are small and there's only just enough showers. They are quite tired now. But do not let  that put you off a visit! Bath arms, riverside pub and white hart all offered good value and the man in the national trust shop will lend maps for the walk round the top of the gorge. The strawberry line cycle ride is lovely and not hard, but be aware that the signpost in station road is broken. Turn right onto the little industrial estate and the path is by the stonemasons past the (very helpful) bike shop. Also the second part of the footpath near to Tesco is not really a bike path.

Excellent Site

Great location for Cheddar Village and Cheddar Gorge (walking distance). Cheddar village has everything you could want and seems very dog & child friendly. The site itself is beautifully maintained, pitches are well spaced and this is one of the friendliest sites we've stayed on. We were able to order newspapers on arrival and they were there for 8.30. The facilities were excellent and whilst the site was fully booked there was no problem utilising showers, washing dishes etc. We would definitely recommend this site!

great location

This site is perfectly located for Cheddar gorge, Wells and Glastonbury. Note to caravan club the showers need to be redone they are not really up to cc standard otherwise the site is very good we had a lovely grass pitch and very much enjoyed our stay in the area. Tickets for the gorge can be purchased for 5.50 with Tesco Clubcard vouchers and at that price are very good value. If you don't do everything on offer they are valid for 10 years! The gorge walk, 3 miles was super but is very rough and steep in places so be prepared. The views are even better than from the lookout tower. We had an excellent breakfast at the edelweiss cafe located at the foot of the gorge just over half a mile from the site. Gough's cave is spectacular take a jumper it is only 11 degrees and you will be in there for a while. Wells is a super place the farmers market on Wednesdays is good. If you like your coffee go to "strangers with coffee" opposite st cuthberts church. Glastonbury tor is well worth the climb on a nice day. You can park for 2.00 at the sheepskin shop nearby. In the town the abbey tearooms have lovely cheese scones, try the savory tea at 8 quid, we loved it.

Back from Cheddar

We spent the May Day weekend at this site. It is very well maintained with lovely wardens. Unfortunately our sat nav took us through the gorge, luckily is wasn't busy so it wasn't too much of a problem, the female warden advised us how to exit the area when we left. Access to the site is through a narrow lane which made a late stay improbable which was a shame. It is situated behind Cheddar Football Club and it sounded like they were filming Braveheart on the Saturday afternoon, but after looking at other reviews we were lucky there were no evening events. The proximity to the gorge and local shopping facilities was in easy walking distance. The site is also situated on the Strawberry Line, a lovely walk or cycle ride along the river. We don't understand why the local church bells ring incessantly, frequently every 15 minutes, even through the night.  They aren't very loud but if you are awake you can hear them. There is no play park  for youngsters or open play areas. Only four showers in the ladies but far too many wash cubicles when they don't take tents, I don't understand why. That said I didn't have to queue. We had a lovely weekend, doing all the touristy Cheddar Gorge, plus a visit to Clarkes Retail Village and Glastonbury. Wells is a lovely place to visit (though we had been there quite recently).

Good weekend away

We stayed 3 nights over the bank holiday and enjoyed the stay, clean and tidy and good sized pitches.

Wet bank holiday but great site

Just spent a lovely two nights at this site, from the moment we arrived everything was perfect. The wardens couldn't be nicer really friendly and helpful. The pitches are well cared for, we chose a hard standing backing onto the footpath, the only thing that woke me was the rain on the roof. Spent a lovely day on Sunday walked to top of gorge and back down the south side, did get very wet but it was worth it for the great views at the top. Even spotted our motorhome on site. It is a lovely site in a great location for a walk into town. Dog friendly pubs & cafes so everyone was kept happy, can't wait to return

Excellent short break

Just back from a week at Cheddar (2nd visit) - We chose the site as its only 1hr 20 mins from home and didnt want to go too far. The site is very well situated on the outskirts of the small town which is a short walk away, avoiding the roads. Though quite busy over the weekend it was quiet and peaceful, and extremely well kept, a credit to the helpful friendly wardens ! The shower/toilet block etc were spotless, again, thanks to the efforts of those wardens ! Our lively dog thoroughly enjoyed his stay - great dog walking just outside the site entrance, along the riverside - he swam every day ! All in all an excellent break - we will be back !!

Good stay in Cheddar

Stayed for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. Would echo some of the points made below: shower cubicles are small, but good hot water and everything very clean. Great walk down the river bank with the dogs. We too used the footpath suggested and would recommend it. Also had warm welcome at the Bath Arms. On our full day there we decided to pay out for the Senior Citizen tickets (Gough's Cave and coffees and cake at Costa's included) plus the tour bus. Actually we thought it was well worth it to see the Gorge - and the wild goats - and, after having our coffee, we spent  a long time going through the Cave with the dogs and listening to the audio tour. We thought the Cave very impressive. The full price tickets included stuff we would not have had time to do or even wanted to see, so this ticket worked for us - thanks to the wardens for putting a notice up about it, we might not have bothered to ask otherwise.
