One of the best with one reservation

We have used this site for over 30 yrs. for overnight and short breaks and have always had an excellent pitch, no matter which part of the site we were in. As a site there is very little to criticise. The only negative thing was the takeaway, which in previous years has always been excellent. This year the menu was very limited and very English, even down to the chips, not French fries. It was also very expensive for what you got.

Pitches great cleanliness not so.

Stayed for 3 nights at the end of August. The site was starting to get quieter. The pitches are nice and big in lovely parkland. Just a short walk into Guines from the site. Our biggest complaint about the site was the cleanliness of the toilet block. We were near the toilet block furthest away from reception and it was rarely cleaned. There was a sheet for the cleaners to sign to say it had been done ( which they signed regularly but seldom cleaned them) the soap dispensers never worked and had no soap in during our whole stay. Toilet roll frequently ran out. On our 2nd day we complained at reception but was abruptly told they'd been cleaned. On a 2 star site you may expect some failures here and there but not on a supposedly 5 star site. The bar was expensive for drinks so didn't use it. Only reason we would use it again is it's got large lovely pitches and it's close to the tunnel.

One of the best.

Still one of the best sites in France. Clean, spacious, helpful, great location, good restaurant, nice pool - what more could you want? Fantastic location for stopover going to/coming from Europe or a great holiday site for anyone who is less adventurous. A1.

Great site for a stopover

We stayed here for the first night of our trip in early June. We wanted to stay fairly close to Calais, which turned out to be just as well as our ferry was running two hours late. The toilets/shower block were clean and the snack bar and restaurant were open. We received a friendly welcome from the staff, who all spoke English. We stocked up at the nearby supermarket in Guines before heading south the following morning. All in all a great site for a stopover either before or after the crossing.

Great site

Stayed here for 2 nights at the end of June. Great site with large pitches and well spaced out. Facilities very good with restaurant worthy of a special recommendation. Staff were very helpful. Visited this site years ago and it has not lost any of its charm. Very welcoming of dogs. very close to Tunnel crossing.

Nice site, but busy

Friendly welcome and shown to pitch, which was serviced. We were staying a week and wished we had asked for a quieter part of the site as they placed us in the area where people use it as an overnight stop, so every day, including during night, vehicles were arriving and leaving. Many large trees. Site has many different areas with touring pitches, tent pitches, cabins for rent and static caravans. It also has super pitches. At the front of the site it is very noisy from the roads. Facilities are clean and there is a swimming pool and small shop and bar and restaurant. Unfortunately, the bar in the evenings played loud thump, thump music, although this stopped at 10pm. Shops a short drive away and campsite organised a local vet to see our dog before we returned to uk which were excellent.

Good stopover

We stayed one night after travelling on Eurotunnel. Last time we had stayed here they had separate ladies & gents toilets, but now seem to be unisex which is a shame plus some of the toilet blocks were locked which was disappointing. On the positive side we had a fab meal in the restaurant and our pitch was an excellent size with a picnic table provided as well.

Think twice (or 3 times) before paying money upfront for this site.

Although this is a good site on which we have stayed on many occasions, one has to be wary of their cancellation policy. We had booked and paid for 17 nights in August through the club (a total of around £750) but due to the rising infection rate in France and the oncoming UK travel advice we decided it was correct to cancel as we were planning to be in France a total of 10 weeks, The cancellation policy at Bien Assise is you lose all. In the current climate all other sites we booked credited or refunded any deposits/fees. I would advise anyone booking this site through the club or otherwise be very very carefull before paying any money up front. I also think the club should make the cancellation policy with this site clearer. Château du Gandspette is a better option.

Large, parkland site with range of faciities

Spent a happy few nights at la Bien Assise, Guines, in our caravan in mid-September (off season so quieter than summer peak). Short drive to Calais, Sanguette and also close to the Normandy coast which is worth exploring. Reception is closed 12 - 2pm in low season, but we were able to choose our pitch as site only about half full. Pitches are mostly a good size, some have low privacy hedges, but many are more open. Set amongst tall trees so although a large site, it didn't seem too big. Had a good meal at the restaurant on our last day. Staff helpful, speak English, but this was a more impersonal, larger site than the other two we had stayed at previously in N France. We found the washroom facilities fine. Many users are one night stopovers, but quite a few were, like us, staying longer as there is a lot to see and do in the area: Boulogne old town, Cap Blanc and Gris Nez, Chateau d'Hardelot, walks around Licques (10km to the S.) etc. Overall a good, well run site rather than excellent, and would happily return for more or as a stopover.

Fantastic site for stop over or longer

We stayed st this site at the start of our holiday for 2 nights and at the end for another 2 nights. We arrived when reception was closed, but following the instructions in the window, found a pitch and got set up before returning later to confirm our details. We needed to arrange a vets visit for our return and this was arranged by the reception team with no problems. The site facilities are good and although some were closed as we were nearing the end of the season this did not detract from our stay. We returned at the end of September and the site was a lot more closed down, however the restaurant was still available and we had an excellent meal here one evening. We will definitely use this site again on our next visit.
