Why stay here ...

This clifftop site overlooks the Mediterranean Sea and offers direct access to private beaches and secluded coves. Pitches vary in size and shape due to the nature of the terrain, and have lovely views of the sea or mountains, while amenities are well maintained and offer something for all ages. Stand-up paddle lessons, art workshops for children and guided walks are all on offer as well as a pool and restaurant with a pleasant terrace. This site is not recommended for those requiring accessible facilities as it is steep in places.

Collioure, famous for its popularity with artists, is a 30-minute walk and has some interesting monuments including a castle and church. The lively resort of Argelès-sur-Mer is just beyond, while an hour’s drive to the south will take visitors to Figueres with its café-lined rambla and Dalí Museum.

About as good as it gets

Les Criques de Porteils
Its true that overseas sites tend to be a bit less "manicured" than UK sites but when you go here, all that becomes irrelevant. The site is on a cliff top, its really clean, the amenities are a wee bit tired but more than acceptable, the staff are multilingual and really helpful, there's a nice and fairly upmarket restaurant on site that accomodated my wife's veggie needs without fuss. The site is about 1.5 miles from Collioure to the south and 2 miles from Argeles sur Mer to the north, both are worth a day out, which we did by bicycle. There are three little beaches directly accessible from the site and waking up to the sound of the Med waves is what you go on holidays for. We don't tend to stay long on sites as one of us (me) gets bored easily, but next time, we'll stay a week here as there's so much to do and its just lovely. The only downside and its a small one, is the nonsense water fill and drop which is right by the entrance so if you are leaving as everyone else is arriving, forget dumping your grey water as you won't get near the grid. Its a wee bit narrow in places but our 'van is 7.5m but they have a meet and greet gent who helped us manoeuvre around, with smile.

Views are amazing

Les Criques de Porteils
Travelling at the beginning of October gives one quite a different view of a site, although this one was almost full and all the facilities were still open. Not the easiest site to book, I had to phone CAMC up to book, but that wasn't a problem. The site does have 5 stars for a reason, it caters for everyone and everything they may or may not like to do! Don't come here looking for peace and quiet, cause you wont get it, but it you love people watching with great views of the sea then this is your place. Toilet blocks were spotless, people worked there all day and more or less cleaned up after each person!! Each time a leaf fell off a tree you felt it was picked up. Some of the pitches are a little interesting to say the least and we were glad we got one on the top road. The terraces are very very steep and you would have to be very brave or completely daft to drive down some of the almost vertical access roads! Having said that, it had a wonderful atmosphere and some of the pitches were huge, others not so! Direct access to the beach, although steps are very steep, but lots of places to walk a dog and the cliff path was wonderful with fabulous views. Motorhome facilities were excellent and restaurant has to be booked.

Not as 5 star as they suggest!

Les Criques de Porteils
Very small pitches with difficult access Push button water hydrants that take a good 10 mins to fill a water barrel Crab toilets that really need modernising Broken toilet seat not repaired throughout our visit
