Great small site with easy access to Oswestry

The Elms
We had relatives staying in Oswestry and this was the obvious site to stay at. Paul was a great host and welcomed us on arrival and we saw him most days. We had a very nearly level hard standing pitch with easy access to EHU, but some pitches have to run the cable across the road in a small trench. The water was just close enough to run our hoses to; we needed 30 m and it just reached. Strangely the water was turned off overnight. The location is not straightforward, but access is via a large layby, with the layby being signposted; turn left off the road and left again along the layby and The Elms is on the right down a gated narrow lane past the house.. The facilities are minimal with water, toilet emptying and a grey water point as well. There is a small amount of traffic and railway noise, but it is not intrusive. The lack of facilities is reflected in the price of only £10 per night. The site has great access to local attractions and we particularly enjoyed the British Ironwork Centre and Shropshire Sculpture Park. We had an excellent afternoon tea at £15 per head and really enjoyed the hundreds of exhibits.

Good Overnighter

The Elms
Only three quarters of a mile from the A5 and £10 a night, this is excellent value for an overnight stop. A warm welcome on arrival, short grass, well trimmed hedges and the emptying points all close to the pitches. There is a hardcore road down the centre of the small rectangular site leading to three 'normally' spaced pitches on one side and three with large expanses of grass between on the other. The gate is locked at night and there are CCTV cameras around. Unfortunately there are negatives. Two sides have a high hedge, the third overlooks the caravan storage area and the fourth a very tatty polythene tunnel filled with rubbish. While we were there several cars came in and out visiting the storage area.

Great little excellent value site

The Elms
Greet on arrival by owner who couldn't be more helpful. Although site could need a little modernising, we could not have asked for more. We felt at home from the moment we arrived. Owner presented us with a pack with local information which was very handy. He was always on hand without being intrusive. Very friendly. Would happily return.

great small site with very welcoming owner

The Elms
We stayed here for a couple of nights and really enjoyed it. It is an easy walk into the village with a couple of pubs and a shop, or a longer walk into Oswestry. The owner was lovely had loads of information about the local area, bus routes etc. We would definitely come back

DO NOT USE THIS SITE

The Elms
We arrived at this site and firstly our relatively new caravan ground out when negiotating the entrance to the driveway into the 'site'. There was a large ripped polytunnel to the left full of garbage and broken items. The roadway was very uneven and tonnes of aggragate was piled up. We passed a water sign with a hose piece tied up with a frayed piece of string. There was no drainage under where you fill your water so any spillage turned to mud under the barrell and dirtied everything. There was an area of caravan storage which the owner was extending. The small area where you camp was fully enclosed... no scenic views at all!! The chemical toilet disposal point had no running water.. just 3 watering cans for you to rinse out your toilet. Your electricity..you had to trail your cable over the rough aggragate that was the 'roadway'. There was a small trench dug out where you trailed the cable and some scaps of rubber to use to help protect the cable. There was a piece of plastic meshing on our pitch area which the owner picked up and slung it accross the grass out of tbe way and left there. It was bank holiday and other local sites were full so short of going home we were stuck there. As we were meeting friends in the area we did relunctantly stay. We awoke the next morning at 8.30 by the owners industrial digger which he used all weekend along with a roller and large dumper truck to extend his storage area. The caravan and our car got covered in fine grey dust. Great!!!!
