February Escape

We've just had 4 nights on the site at "Camping de Paris", and have had a great time. The site is huge, although a large section is closed off at this time of year. The team on reception made us welcome and allowed us to speak French, but they "helped" us when we got stuck. The pitches are all well-numbered, and split up by hedges, with Power, water and a drain at the corner of each pitch. Our pitch was partly a puddle, but there was loads of room to pitch without getting our feet wet. If you dont like the pitch, go back and ask for another one. The toilets looked new - and were always clean. (I think there is an older block in the closed section which might not be as nice. They were gender non-specific, which was a change. There is a Cafe-Resto which does meals, and a site shop which is not cheap, but it is Paris! The Navette bus does not run in winter, but it is only a 5 minute walk to the bus stop where you can get to the Metro line (2 euros for 1 journey - buy a ticket on the bus). There is also what looks like a "new" route (route 70) which we took all the way to the City Hall. (Near the Louvre etc) It took about an hour for the full trip, but does get you into Paris without any hassle. Once in town we bought a book of 10 tickets which was a bit cheaper, and then for 1 day we bought a 1 day "go anywhere in zones 1 and 2" ticket for 7.50 each. The Campsite is at the edge of Zone 1. Although the site is by the Seine, only a few pitches face the river (ours did!). We also were able to cycle from the site, along the "tow path" for some slightly muddy but safe excercise. The site does take the site vouchers, but once again the name change of the club caused a problem as the staff did not recognise the CMC. Luckily I had emailed in advance to check about the vouchers, and was able to show the email from their manager. You still have to pay the tourist tax, which was 6 eur for 2 adults for 4 nights. The site was safe, clean and quiet. Well worth a visit.
