Disappointing

Upon arrival the impressive reception and adjacent restaurant looked promising. It went downhill a bit from there. Arrived on pitch and they are quite closely packed in. The pitch was tired and dirty - the pitches had water facilities on them but all turned off and the grey water drains were all full of debris. We went for a walk outside the site and after wondering through some drunk undesirables found the area to be pleasant enough but few facilities like restaurants so we returned thinking we would have something in the on-site restaurant. They only served pizza but had not turned the oven on despite having been open for 2 hours so we had an expensive soft drink cola and returned to pitch to cook our own. Had to wash floor in motorhome as brought in lots of dirt from floor of pitch even though dry. Next day we went to empty the loo and the trendy system they had installed did not work - emptied down the toilets instead as were others. Having said that the toilets were spotless. Okay for stopover but wouldn’t rush back for more.

WARNING

I just wanted to add that we awoke this morning after 24 hrs of rain to really look at things. Of course, the pitch was sodden, but the rain had literally destroyed the top layer of the standing. Albeit the rain wasn’t that heavy, more persistent, the awful scree / sand based standing had covered everything from ground level to around 5 inches with a thick red grit / sand. We spent 3 hrs this morning washing down the water containers, awning electric lead, and then ourselves. This site is not for caravans really, more a motorhome stopover. Over the past three nights all we saw was motorhomes coming in late and leaving very early. I just wanted to add to and warn everyone not to look at this site as anything more. Be warned.

1970s Time-Wharp

We are still here after booking for three nights on our first caravan venture abroad; wish I had read these reviews before we booked to stay. On arrival all seemed ok and then we tried to find our pitch. The given map is not a reflection of the site and when we found our pitch “marked 11”, we later discover pitch 11A, very confusing. The pitch: water on our pitch was turned off / broken taps, as were other points around our area, seems there are older water systems still in place but not serviceable. We were not advised of this so we wandered around several empty pitches to find water. Even the clearly marked main pipe was off / broken opposite pitch 9A. The pitches themselves are not level, and on one side of the road, they are up a two inch kerb. Moreover, they are all just loose scree and large stones. Do not try and get your awning up - even drill pegs were useless and didn’t bite, rather just churn up the scree. We persevered but after a day of rain, this scree is now stuck to our awning; if only I could upload the pictures. The facilities on site are adequate but very tatty and dated. The gents has a very pungent urine odour and the roof was loose over the showers. These are hot, push button which is great, but they only stay on for 2-3 seconds! Swimming pool is ok, but no tables, chairs or loungers. Great laundry though. The cafe pizzas are excellent, (€10-€14). First night we had two pizzas, a portion of chips and two beers for €37. However, a set menu for €15 each at Le Laurencin, 24 Rue St John was excellent. Menu in English too. We had Onion Soup gratin, braised steak and lyonnaise pots, sweet and wine for €37. You do the math on that one! This site is very accessible of course and easy on/off the autoroute, which is its only saving grace. It is very busy with motor homes that arrive late and go early so some noise there. Overall it is very very tired and no money is spent keeping it neat and tidy. It’s as if you are in a time-wharp back to 1970. The staff are great though and eager to help. Getting into Lyon is easy on public transport. A €6 ticket from reception will get you a 24hr all access ticket pass for the 89 bus to the train/underground station as well as the underground and the Lyon trams up to the cathedral itself, great value. NB - ON EXIT OF TRAIN AND TRAMS YOU DO NOT NEED TO SCAN / USE YOUR TICKET. JUST WALK THROUGH. WE SAW SOME ‘POST THEM’ IN WHAT ARE RUBBISH BINS IDENTICAL TO THE TICKET MACHINES). In a nutshell, this is a one night, two maximum site and great for experiencing the lovely city of Lyon. Looking at a review from 2015 though, it is clear nothing has been done to the touring pitches. They are not akin to UK Club Sites which are five star, Camping Lyon two star max. Give it a lot of thought as to what you want if choosing to book here and do not stay more than two nights. Only use it for stopover or to visit Lyon. It is not a resort !

Excellent for a Stopover or Lyon Visit

Despite some negative reviews I hope this site remains on the clubs list as it’s in a fantastic location just off the main road through Lyon. There is a large supermarket beside it which was very handy for stalking up on our journey south. The pitches were a decent size and when we visited the shower block was clean, fully operational with plenty hot water. Overall we were happy and will definitely use again.

OK for a couple of nights

Stayed here for three nights recently but two nights would have been enough. A trip into Lyon is well worth the trouble but that is it. The site is looking a bit tired with the owners appearing to spend their money in installing more holiday homes than on the visiting campers. The toilets were acceptable, just. A handy place to stop over on the way elsewhere.

What a mess!

Good shade for caravan on hot summer days. Helpful staff. Convenient for those 'just stopping by'. BUT: Only three working showers for (literally) hundreds of us, and this was NOT just a temporary glitch. This site needs serious money spending on it.

Great access let down by poor site

This is the second time we have used this site - primarily due to it being open in March when we head south to Spain and some sunshine. I tend to agree with other comments about the site being muddy and not level. The facilities are dated but more than acceptable - the shower block is heated like a Sauna! If other sites were open, we probably would not use this one but it is situated right by the side of the Motorway and this easy to access, so in that respect it is well positioned and access is excellent even for large units. Good choice of restaurants within walking distance.

Not particularly impressed ...

Some pitches are level but most are quite uneven, comprising bare earth and some grass. Therefore muddy when wet (as it was when we stayed). Showers, etc., adequate but not as clean as they could be - again, a consequence of that mud! But plenty of hot water to showers, hand basins and dish washing area. Chemical toilet disposal and waste water disposal are available adjacent to an Aire style service point (free to use) which has definitely seen better days - I hesitated before using the fresh water hose but Reception confirmed it was drinking water. Reception staff friendly and helpful. We were not allocated a pitch, just told to go and pick from those that were free. Overall, OK for a one night stopover in transit - it's literally 5 minutes off the A6 - but wouldn't want to stay longer, regardless of how convenient it is for exploring Lyon ...

Sept 2017

Not that easy to actually get to as you leave the A6 junc 33 because of a very chaotic road system immediately at top of slip road. Once that is mastered the site is easy to find behind the railway station and sports complex. Great overnight stop on route N or S. Ideal base to visit Lyon city centre. Some migrant workers present and A6 road noise at times. Clean facilities and good helpful reception.

Handy Stopover

We always use this site when we travel to the South and back again. Just off the autoroute only minutes from the site and close to a hyper market if you are running out of food. Staff are welcoming. There is some road noise of course but if you pitch at the back of the site it's not too bad. The pitches are dusty and untidy wouldn't stay longer than one night. A lot of people take up 2 pitches if the site is quiet and stay hitched up overnight for a quick get away in the morning. We will continue using it as a stop over
