Lovely beach and town

We have just returned from a short stay at this site. The facilities were good, the town is good for a short walk and the beach is great for a longer walk. However I have to agree with previous reviewers on the pitches. They are very small even for a motorhome and there is so little room to manoeuvre because of the closeness of adjoining pitches and the narrow road. We would not stay at this site again but choose another nearby.

Disappointed on pitch allocation

This site, in places, is very tight to manoeuvre round. We have a Bailey 464 (so quite small) but still found getting to the pitch we were allocated difficult as site roads are narrow. When we got to the pitch someone else was there. We went back to reception and were told 'They must have forgotten they were due to go home today.' We were also told they had no spare pitches! We were not the only people to find someone else on a pitch we were allocated that day. Eventually we were given another pitch and told we'd find it better for us. That definitely wasn't the case it was very small and on a sandy incline. Even with a motor mover we needed help to get onto the pitch as one wheel was just digging further and further into the sand. We only had room in the width of the pitch for our caravan and awning. We couldn't walk round the front of the awning as it was very near the hedge. The depth of the pitch was so short it could just about accommodate the length of the caravan + the width of our car. We were so disappointed in the pitch that I bothered to work out it was just under 60 sq m - nowhere near the 100 sq m advertised by the Caravan Club. We'd booked for 4 nights and when we left the people on the original pitch had still 'forgotten to go home'. We think that on noticing we have a small van they thought we could be put on a very small pitch. Also unfortunately for us we were next to static caravans, not among other tourers, the occupants of one of them decided to have a party until gone midnight one night. We appreciate that's a one-off, and if we'd been enjoying our pitch we probably wouldn't have remembered it, but that tainted our stay too. The plus side of this site is the direct access to a lovely sandy beach, with fabulous sunsets. Unfortunately they didn't compensate enough for an awful pitch. A great shame and disappointing end to our holiday when we'd already stayed on 2 other sites recommended by the Club (Le Domaine du Logis and De Trologot) which were both lovely.

Nice stopover site

We used this site on arriving in Caen. Found it a little difficult to find in the dark but the owners were wonderful directing us by phone and even waiting at the gate to help us when we arrived which was almost 10.30 p.m. Shower blocks were very clean and although our stay was short we were very happy with everything.

Overpriced.

Needing a one night stay before catching the early morning ferry from Caen, we felt that the £50 per night charge was extortionate. Although on the beach, there is very little space, it's noisy and overcrowded. When we arrived at our pitch we had to evict a group of young French adults whose electricity cable didn't stretch to their pitch so they'd been using ours. Facilities seem average, but to have to pay for wifi after being fleeced for a small plot of sandcovered grass is quite simply robbery. Water pressure was low,and again only one tap shared between many. Very very noisy, from the on site entertainment and people returning at all hours. The town is a 15-20 minute walk, excellent restaurants serving beautifully cooked food. I wouldn't return to this site, there are cheaper, quieter and better value places.

NOT for peace and quiet!

Should be a super site. Lovely location backing right onto the beach and perfectly located for the D-day landing locations but ruined by the horrendous loud nightly entertainment that goes on until midnight and takes place outside. Our pitch was the opposite end of the site but we were kept awake by the constant thumping of the music all night.

Ideal Lower Normandy base

A beach-side site 30 minutes from Ouistreham Ferry and ideally sited for exploration with so many locations within easy reach: Our favourites were Bayeux Tapestry, D Day beaches and Pegasus Bridge, the busy sea-side town of Villers-sur-Mare, the delightful Auge region with forest and orchards, doted with picture-post-card villages such as Beaumont-en-Auge and Beuvron-en-Auge. The site had predominantly French campers but reception and other staff spoke English and were friendly and helpful. The beach was sandy but did not allow dogs. The Mason de la Nature reserve is within a short ride and is large so best visited on bikes which can be hired from the camp site

Beautiful spot ruined by a disco and shouting!

The location is lovely and great for exploring Normandy landing sites and Bayeaux. However there was absolute bedlam from the disco with cheering and ahouting late into the night and a lot of noisy kids.  We are a family with two young kids and we have camped in many busy sites but this was just awful.  Toilet blocks are very dated and there was regularly a smell of drains despite it not being particularly warm.

Good for a base or ferry stopover

Stayed one night after ferry crossing, the site having been recommended by the Club, as they are used to late arrivals. Just a 20 minute run from the ferry after crossing the famous Pegasus Bridge, we arrived just after 10:15pm. Barrier was open, and a note on door of reception addressed to us invited us to choose any pitch. Just as we were entering, the very helpful and welcoming site owner drove up, and gave us the basic information about the site including the sanitary block access code. Facilities were very clean, reception staff very helpful. Some pitch accesses a little tight as is often the case, and a motor mover certainly helps. Most interestingly, the owner told us he had recently acquired the campsite much closer to the ferry  terminal. Several folk on the ferry were heading to that site, it being just a mile or so from the port itself. We had seen that the reviews of that site were very mixed, and the new owner said his priority was going to be upgrading the sanitary facilities. That being so, for a quick and simple overnight before or after the ferry, this will be our choice next time, simply for convenience if heading South or West after Caen.

A smashing place

After great two-week stays in 2013 & 2014 we (a couple in 6.5m motorhome with a rescue dog) returned for another fortnight in late June / early July. As before, the site and its facilities were always kept clean and the family-owners couldn't have been more friendly and obliging. With direct access to one of the best beaches in Europe and dogs allowed on it anytime untill approx 6th July – then early AM / late PM only for the six weeks of high season. Site is a short (flat) walk to a lovely small town with good shops and a freindly/affordable vet. It was the best experience we have had in France and we're going again next year. The ONLY moans we heard were from a few fellow Brits who didn't appreciate the camaraderie of other (mainly French) visitors.

Not so bad out of season

Visited this site 30/9/15. Didn't read the reviews when we booked so a little apprehensive when we read them en route! Staff very friendly. Good location - right on the beach and short walk to the small resort. Very picturesque. I can understand some of the comments and could imagine it would not be a good site for us when it's busy. Facilities were clean but badly in need of updating.  Pool was vey nice.  Would stay again but definitely mid week out of season.  Croissants good but worst baguette of the holiday - haha
