Great location right on the banks of the Loire

Very interesting site, located on the banks of the Loire just outside the town of Montsereau. A member of the C’est Si Bon group of sites, it is in many ways a little difficult to complete a review on the site. Let me qualify that by saying there was absolutely nothing wrong with the site or the facilities or it’s location. Unfortunately our allocated pitch was just over the road from the swimming pool complex which was a little noisy and added to that there was a bouncy castle opposite, where the pumps were running from 10 am till almost 7 pm with a continual whining noise. However, despite this we spent four lovely days here. It was less than a 10 minute walk into the village, where there were two bars, a restaurant, patisserie, and a small convenience store. On site, there was a bar restaurant and you could order bread for delivery the following day, but we chose to walk up into town. Staff were friendly English is spoken, all the site facilities were clean, tidy and well maintained. Good location with plenty of walks and cycle trails leading in both directions from the site. Definitely worth a visit, and we would come back again sometime if we visit this area again. There is a mention of the metal bridge over the Loire at Montsereau - It is manageable with care - We arrived and departed over the bridge without any issues.

Still Little Britain

Good area for exploring local chateaux, cycling etc, loads to see. You need to take your own bikes as nowhere nearby to hire them. Reception were always busy, but tried their best .Lovely boulangerie in the village within a couple of minutes' walk, plus other little shops, bars, cafes etc. Good Sunday market, and 2nd Sunday of the month there is a large flea market in Montsereau. It was very hot in June when we were there, so couldn't do much sightseeing beyond midday. As per a previous review, there was a high proportion of British 'vans here, including a specialist caravan rally. Depends on whether or not that would bother you. There were issues with unreliable electricity supply voltage when people started to cook in the evenings and then switch on their Air Con. People around us were having to reset their power at the posts. Don't try to use domestic-style appliances, and electric bbqs are banned. We had a private sanitaire, which meant a bigger pitch and no queueing. Be prepared to clean it yourself at the end of stay - otherwise it's 70 euros. One thing we liked was that the site enforced the 'no arrivals before 1400' rule so you all got a bit of peace and quiet. There is very little off-road waiting area, so usually a queue at 1400, but if you have booked then you'll be OK as the site was full every day we were there. Someone else has mentioned the enclosed steel bridge just west of Montsereau - do not let your sat nav take you that way!

Great site next to the Loire

Spent two nights here early September and unfortunately caught some rain so pitch very muddy - nothing anyone can do about that! We liked the location and found the access to the bike paths excellent. Cycled to Saumur and had lovely lunch before heading back and visiting the troglodyte caves. Fantastic and not to be missed. Restaurant very popular but we didn’t visit. Right on edge of pretty town and lovely castle.

Little Britain

No t the sort of site we like to many British vans/ caravans. Felt like a British enclave. Prefer a smaller site with more international. Location nice but nothing in village but nice if you cycle up to villages further away. Site staff friendly and good cleanliness.( toilet paper provided) if with ACSI don’t book over website as won’t get ACSI price but phone the. Dropped changer there. Would not go back.

Lovely Location

We stopped here just one night between main sites. The pitches were great, large, flat, and some shade. We also liked the location. Our only issue was the evening entertainment - a band - they were entertaining but did not finish until 23:20 - We felt this was late for a family campsite.

GOOD CAMPSITE IN GREAT POSITION

We were in Plot 82 - right opposite the children's play area. My fault for not requesting a quieter position - although that would not be guaranteed anyway. Lots of children were having a great time but unfortunately screamed a lot! On top of that there was a "bouncy castle" affair which gave a continual "whooshing" noise as it kept air pumped into it. It was supposed to stop at 7pm but never did. I saw children, unsupervised, trying to get onto the top of the "wall". Most failed but one little girl did and I feared she would slip onto the wrong side and end up on the hard ground. She didn't but I reported it to Reception. Unfortunately, they only said they put a notice up (too small to see from a distance) telling anyone who sees rules? being broken to report it. Legally, doesn't cover it, I shouldn't think! And I told them I wasn't expecting to be responsible if someone's child falls. They provide the climbing equipment, they should ensure it is used safely. That apart, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and spoke good english. There was a swimming pool, bar/restaurant, baguettes delivered everyday to order and a small shop with milk (not proper milk like ours!). The toilet block had separate toilets for ladies and gents. The showering cubicles were mixed. It was quite busy and shower cubicles not 100% clean but overall, the cleanliness was of a good standard. The pitches were separated by hedges mostly, which shaded sunshine - although it was a cloudy week so didn't make much difference and would be welcome on hot days. Monsoreau is a pretty place to wander around and there are lots of "Velo" cycle routes nearby and it is flat. Most campers had bicycles and there are safe cycle lanes to use. Quite close to Saumur, which is a lovely town and has a great food and clothing market on Saturday mornings. I would recommend this site to families, but if I stayed again it would be away from the playground.

Great site for cycling and seeing the local area.

Stayed here for five nights in mid august. Paid extra for a pitch with a private bathroom which was luxury. Had a washing up area and a fridge too. Also very useful that some pitches you can drive on and off. Great for us as our mover stopped working as we left for France. ! We did some lovely cycling routes. Into Samur through an amazing cave. To Chinon. And beyond. Lovely very local Sunday market a very short walk away. Town also has a useful smallish Supermarket. A traditional butchers and a lovely bakery. Some Pitches have views of the Loire. Very helpful Reception who even offered to book covid tests for us pre departure. We didn’t need these as we’re heading further south. We didn’t use the pool but drank in the bar and had takeaway pizza which were okay. One night. Easy drive from St Malo with a caravan.

Just the Ticket

We visited the last week in August so out of the main French holiday period, indeed the last evening of entertainment was while we were there. I would echo the two previous reviews in all respects. Facilities not quite up to UK CC standard but way better than many French sites. Well positioned for visiting the local area.

As described by the CC, fab for biking

This site is probably as described by the CC, it is peaceful and good for families and couples alike. Do follow the directions given by the club and not a sat nav as I believe it will take you across a metal encased bridge which only allows a max width of 2m each way! It's fine if you have dropped off your caravan and are just popping to Lidl as it's the quickest route. The site is level and pretty shaded due to the trees. It is a little tight once through the barrier for larger outfits but as long as you take care there isn't an issue. As with most foreign sites a motor mover is a must but we also made a point of telling reception on arrival that we had an 8 meter caravan thus we were given a good sized pitch. There are different sized pitches for tents/motor homes etc. Most of the pitches have a bit of a view of the Loire even when you are not next to it. The site has toilets with toilet roll and the showers are mixed but separate cubicles and cubicle washbasins. There are also a couple of hairdryers fixed within the shower block. The site has washing machines at 4 euros and a tumble dryer. there is good washing up facilities too. The pool has a few sun loungers scattered about and there is also a toddler pool. For the children there is a bouncy castle and two trampolines with safely nets. There is a small restaurant on site together with a bar, we tried the bar but did not eat so cannot comment on it's quality. They have a few vendors come onto the site a couple of evenings a week selling food and wine. The site has direct access to a cycle path through a coded gate and it is a 2 minute walk to Montsoreau which has a few bistro's, bakers and a 'spar' type shop for essentials. There are a few winery's offering wine tasting within walking distance. The larger town of Saumur is about 10 mins in the car. Park for free besides the river or pay & display in the town. The Lidl supermarket is also in Saumur on the other side of the river to the main town and there is a le Clerc's hypermarket too. A nice site that was very similar to CC back home. We would return to this site if returning to the area.

A great new site for The Club...

We were amongst the first Caravan Club members to enjoy this new addition and were given an amazing, friendly welcome. Showers and toilets very clean. The site is level, well laid out and un-commercial. Some of the pitches are being upgraded to full service so there were some (unobtrusive) works going on whilst we were there however as a result the owner upgraded us to a Loire view pitch on check in. An easy 3 minute walk to the small village of Montsoreau where you'll find everything you need. Watch the bridge over the Loire if you approach from the north, it's narrowish for wider outfits...oh,and the chemical disposal point is a traditional French one....a toilet. Expect a small amount of road noise and the lovely church bells on the hour... although not in the night. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
