Visit May 2020

Moulin de Campech We (2 persons and 1 dog) stayed for 7 nights in May 2022. The site is small and well shaded with surrounding woodland. Much bird life. We took advantage of the on site restaurant. The food was good and not too expensive. Dog walking around the site was fine. A nice walk at the side of the lake. There was plenty of space due to it being early in the season. Very little walking from the site, apart from some quiet roads. We did a trip to Lac de Clarens at Castelijoux. Nice walk around the lake and some man made beaches. The dog enjoyed the water but there are restrictions on dogs in July and August. Big supermarket at Castelijoux We also paid a visit to Castelmoron Sur Lot and enjoyed a Riverside picnic on the beach opposite the town The camping site has a lot of stopovers. Mostly 1 or 2 nights on the journey. I would use the site again for a short stay to break a journey but not much nearby. You need either 2 or 4 wheels to explore

Comment from the Campsite:

Many thanks for taking the time to review your visit to our campsite in May 2022, we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay. There are many longer walks along forest trails, as well as the shorter walks on the quiet lanes. Due to the convenient location of the campsite, we are in a good place for stop overs, but we are also a very good base for longer stays – we generally have a good mix of both

A beautiful site

We stayed here for 5 nights in July 2020. A lovely friendly and quiet site. The owners are lovely and very accommodating. The facilities whilst a little old are immaculate. The on site restaurant is great value and the food first class. The Trout is a particular highlight. Well worth a stay if you are in that neck of the woods.

Moulin de Campech

An absolutely splendid site! We found it by accident nearly 20 years ago and have returned every year since. The tranquil atmosphere is friendly and relaxed and visitors always receive a warm welcome. There is a heated pool which gets sun all day long. Below the pool is reception and the excellent bar/restaurant where delicious home-cooked meals are available. Pitches are large, with most separated by small hedges. Toilet facilities are somewhat elderly, but kept spotlessly clean. New disabled toilet facilities are a recent addition. The surrounding area is pretty and has several small villages and bastides. Visitors are loaned a comprehensive folder giving much information on the local area. The nearest town, Casteljaloux is well worth exploring. An ideal spot for a thoroughly peaceful and relaxing holiday!

An enchanting site.

This is the third time we have been to Moulin de Campech, the last being 9 years ago and as we entered the site my wife exclaimed wonderful it hasn't changed. It hasn't apart from from subtle bits of upgrading.. The restaurant is as good value as ever, make sure you book in high season. The pitches are large and the trees almost fairy tale. The owners go to enormous trouble to look after guests and they are a mine of useful information about the area. We will undoubtedly return not leaving it nine years this time.

Great Atmosphere

Make sure you print out the directions before travel, as we came from the south we had a few problems as we left it up to the satnav!! It is just off the A11. Great site - it has it all. Peaceful yet has restaurant/bar - after 6 weeks away this was a beautiful little piece of England in France. Wednesday nights they have fish and chips followed by a quiz night, which the locals apparently love too. The restaurant food was amazing, for 18 euros you could have soup, starter, main (with chips/potatoes and salad/vegetables), desert or cheese, coffee and a 1/4 litre of wine. Pool and fishing lake too. Great atmosphere the minute you entered, so much so we really wish we hadn't pre-booked our next site! Our only problem was only booking one night!

Definitely worth a visit

A great site, superbly run and hosted by Sue, George, Bob & Dot. This site is definitely worth a visit, not so great for families as not much for the children to do (we didn't have any) but for adults, couples, groups, it is superb. Sue is a culinary genius, the food is superb and a wonderful menu, plus a fish & chip night and barbie. The site is spacious and well laid out, albeit that the showers could do with an update (the only flaw). Nice pool and terrace to relax on and chat to fellow campers .. very dog friendly, with woods to walk in & explore Moulin de Campech is in a wonderful part of France, lots to see and do in the surrounding area and the site and its owners are the jewel in the crown. Highly recommended

Well worth a visit

We have just returned from spending 10 nights at this site.  If it is peace and quiet you are after this is the place.  It is a lovely site, staff are very friendly and helpful, pool is excellent and there is lots to see and explore out and about.  We brought our bikes with us and there are numerous mapped cycle routes from the site.

Peaceful but fun

The site is in a beautiful location with lovely trees and streams. The swimming pool is excellent. The British owners are very welcoming and helpful. There is a good folder of bike and walking tours which are laminated to use and return and the owners are happy to describe for you. The fish and chip and quiz night on a Wednesday was very good value and fun. The sanitary block was clean, with good showers but old fashioned.

Surprised Australians

Driving down the Lot river we were looking for an overnight stay and saw a campsite marked on our map. So we headed towards its location but almost shot passed as it is in a secluded valley. As we registered we saw that fresh Trout was on the menu and that there was a Quiz night tomorrow, so we changed our mind about the 1 night and stayed 2. We would have stayed longer as everybody was so friendly but had other places booked and had to leave, However we will be making a booking for longer this year - hopefully- as it is such a pleasant campsite.

Lucky accident

We discovered this site by accident, literally! A minor accident on the motorway saw us directed here by red pennant. Now we aim to return deliberately as the site is lovely. English owned, run and mainly patronised it sits at the tail end of an old watermill. It has a lovely patio overlooking the mill pond where you can enjoy a drink or a meal. Wednesday night is fish and chips night with the best fish and chips south of the channel and great value and a quiz which modesty prevents me saying we won. We look forward to our return to discover more about this area of France.
