Stretching across the borders of Somerset and Devon, Exmoor National Park is a haven for hikers, wildlife lovers, and stargazers, offering miles of dramatic moorland and coastline to explore.Share the trails with the Exmoor ponies, the oldest native pony breed in Britain. They live freely on the moors, but as they are all owned, they are not technically wild. The national park is home to the largest herds of wild red deer, a stunning sight if you are lucky enough to see them.
The Valley of Rocks is another stunning trail, with incredible coastal views and some feral goats! Cross the Tarr Steps, a clapper bridge 180 feet in length across the River Barle. The delightful small town of Dulverton is nearby where you can enjoy the independent shops, pretty tearooms, pubs and lovely restaurants. The park itself is also a wonderful place for stargazing and in 2011 it became an International Dark Sky Reserve. Keep an eye on the weather and immerse yourself in the night sky.
