As the name indicates, this Club campsite close to the south Wales coast in Carmarthenshire offers immediate access to a country park – and a rather special place it is, too.

Site Manager Jo – part of the six-strong team working hard to keep everything running smoothly – sets out why the location is a big draw for visitors.

“The park has introduced a course with high ropes, zip wires and climbing walls this year,” she explains. “They have a ski slope and toboggan run, crazy golf, cafe with cocktail bar, an adventure playground, 500 acres of forest trails and history – there was a munitions factory making bombs during the Second World War, so there is a historical trail explaining what all the tunnels and bunkers were used for, and much more.”

The park is free to access on foot, which is obviously how most members staying at the adjacent Club campsite will enter. There are also special events nearby – the site is often full, for example, during the Battle on the Beach weekend, an off-road cycle race that takes place each March. Your pooch might enjoy the CaniX dog runs (see canix.co.uk for details), while there’s a steam festival (26-27 September in 2026) and a Halloween-themed fun run on the way.

from the Club campsite. The eight-mile stretch of Cefn Sidan Beach – about a 20-minute walk from your pitch – is another big draw.

“There’s a small section of the beach that doesn’t allow dogs, in the centre, but they are welcome everywhere else. The beach is flat and sandy – perfect for land yachts,” Jo says.

There are others nearby that are just as worthy of your time. “Pendine Sands is just around the coast, where the land speed records are conducted, and we also have the Gower Peninsula about 12 miles away.”

In terms of eating and drinking, Jo and her team are more than happy to offer recommendations. “We have flame-grilled pizzas made to order on Friday evening, street food on Saturday evening and an ice-cream van comes most evenings during high season,” she says.

Jo also recommends the Ship Aground Inn (bookings are advised), which is on the outskirts of the nearby town of Burry Port; and down by the harbour there are pubs, cafes and restaurants. A file in the information room lists local takeaways that can deliver to the site if needed.

So that’s Pembrey Country Park Club Campsite – a wonderful spot for a packed holiday, with a huge amount of things to do right on your doorstep, but just as great if you want to pitch up, take in the sea air and enjoy some well-earned rest and relaxation.
