How do I change my overseas site or ferry booking?

Please phone our Travel Service on 01342 316 101 (Mon to Fri 9am to 5.30pm) and our team will be able to help you with any changes you need.

What if I want to add a campsite or ferry to an existing holiday booking?

As it is not possible to amend an Overseas booking online, you can either make a new booking online or call us to amend your original booking.

What have the ferry companies done to make it safer for me to travel?

The ferry companies have continued to operate sailings throughout the pandemic which has given them the opportunity to implement safety measures to ensure people can travel safely. These may include mandatory face coverings for all passengers, enhanced cleaning regimes and having a plentiful supply of hand sanitiser available. Most operators have also switched to using 'fresh air' throughout the ships, not recirculated air.

How do I get the cheapest ferry fare?

In general the short crossings between Dover and Calais/Dunkirk are the cheapest way to cross the Channel. However there are often great savings on daytime sailings operated by Brittany Ferries to France or on Stena's Harwich - Hook of Holland route which may prove more cost-effective if they get you closer to your ultimate destination. Avoiding peak times on all routes will give you the best price, as will booking as early as possible before your travel date. Also booking your campsite or Overseas Sites Night Vouchers at the same time as your crossing will give you access to 'Combined Deals' which are often cheaper than booking each element separately.

Have there been any changes to how to book an overseas site or ferry?

We’re excited to launch this new website, but there are lots more improvements we want to make. Whilst we weren’t able to improve the ease with which Overseas holidays can be booked as part of this stage due to the scale of the project, it is one of the areas we will be improving as part of future developments.

Does the Club offer flexible ferry fares?

We offer standard fares of the ferry companies and Eurotunnel but all bookings can be amended for a £20 Club amendment fee, plus any charges from the operator and increase in fare.

Should I pre-book my ferry between the North & South Islands?

It’s worth pre-booking your ferry crossing as these can get very busy particularly during the peak season in January and February. Powered campsites can also be very busy during this period, so you might want to pre-book some of these if you’re planning to travel at this time.

How do I book a ferry or LeShuttle?

We negotiate great deals with the ferry companies and LeShuttle (Eurotunnel) and we offer members a 'Price Match Guarantee'. So if you find the same product elsewhere for a cheaper price let us know and we'll match it.

To find out more and to make a booking please call our Contact Centre on 01342 316101.

Why does the total of my online basket keep changing?

As you add overseas sites to a Eurotunnel or ferry crossing, your basket recalculates any discounts that apply and displays the overall price of your holiday.

Is it cheaper to book a crossing via the Caravan and Motorhome Club, instead of going direct to the operator?

The Club negotiates great deals with the ferry companies, LeShuttle (Eurotunnel) and our European campsites and offers members a 'Price Match Guarantee'. So if you find the same product elsewhere for a cheaper price let us know and we'll match it.

Will there be delays at the ports because of Brexit?

Eurotunnel, the ferry companies and the port authorities have given assurances that they are doing everything to keep the ports running as efficiently as possible with some advising to leave extra time for security, check-in and boarding procedures. Our advice would be to check on the operator websites or social feeds (Twitter etc.) for the most up-to-date information before travel and arrive in plenty of time to get through check in for your booked departure. It may be a good idea to have a comfort break prior to arrival at port and to have refreshments in the vehicle in the event of delay, especially if children and pets are travelling.

We've launched the new booking system in a phased way; to start with you'll be able to book Overseas Sites for travel from 1 January to 31 May 2020 and we'll be releasing more travel dates in the next few months. For crossings, you can book from 1 January until later in 2020 dependent on the ferry/Eurotunnel release schedule.

When will you resume European Travel services?

From 10 July, travellers who have spent the preceding 14 days within certain countries, will not be required to self-isolate on arrival into England. With the exception of Portugal and Slovenia, all countries featured in our European programme are included in this list. The devolved government in Scotland is in agreement with this list of countries with the exception of Spain so residents of Scotland returning from Spain will need to self-isolate for 14 days.

The devolved governments of Wales and Northern Ireland have not yet announced which rules they will follow. This list of 'safe' countries is based on the current assessment of COVID-19 risks and is under constant review so we recommend members check the government website for the most up to date information both before and during your trip: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-travel-corridors

Regardless of whether or not you need to self-isolate on your return, every person will need to complete a passenger locator form which must be presented on arrival back into England. This information will be used to contact travellers if someone on the ferry or train develops coronavirus symptoms. The form should be submitted within 48 hours of your arrival into England and you'll need to show your completed form when you arrive at the UK border, either a printed copy or on your mobile phone.

Children under 18 years old do not need their own form but should be added to the form of an adult in the party. For more details visit https://www.gov.uk/provide-journey-contact-details-before-travel-uk

With the exception of Spain, Portugal Belgium and Luxembourg and Slovenia all other countries featured in our European programme are included in the exemption lists issued by England and the devolved governments of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Can I travel to Europe with the Club?

Travel restrictions are easing and we are taking campsite bookings for countries where the FCDO advice allows travel and UK tourists are permitted to enter. Eurotunnel and ferry companies continue to operate and can be booked for all travel dates. As rules and regulations can change quickly it is really important to check the official guidance before and during your holidays.

Does the Club take deposits for overseas bookings?

Yes, deposits for overseas bookings are calculated at 20% for a site and 25% for a ferry (unless it is a non-refundable ferry/Eurotunnel in which case full payment is due at time of booking). The final balance is due 10 weeks prior to travel.

Which bookings cannot be made online?

Some types of bookings can't be made online and we'll continue to book these via the phone free of charge. The products which can't be booked online are:

  • Escorted European Tours
  • campsites on request
  • 5th wheelers
  • motorhome and trailer
  • pets on some ferries
  • bike racks
  • ferry credit notes
  • cots on ferries

What if no ferries are returned for the dates I want but they are available on the operator's website?

If it is not possible to book your ferry online, there would be no Contact Centre Booking Fee charge. Although, in general, if space is available on the chosen sailing on the operator's website then we should see space available on our website.

Will I always get the best price booking with the Club?

The Club negotiates great deals with the ferry companies, Eurotunnel and our European campsites and offers members a 'Price Match Guarantee'. So if you find the same product elsewhere for a cheaper price let us know and we'll match it.

Can I book UK campsites and overseas stays as well as ferries and other crossings together in one basket?

No. Multiple stays at UK campsites can be booked together, and multiple stays at overseas campsites combined with ferry/Eurotunnel crossings can be booked together. But the system will not yet allow UK and overseas stays to be booked together. Therefore, users will have to make one booking for UK campsites, and a separate booking for overseas campsites and ferry/Eurotunnel crossings.
