What age of gadgets are covered?

As long as your gadget is less than 18 months old at the date of inception (policy start date) from when it was purchased as new and you have retained proof of purchase you will be able to claim for this item.  Any new gadgets you buy during the period of cover will be automatically covered.

Does MAYDAY have any age, size or weight restrictions?

There are no size, weight or vehicle age restrictions with MAYDAY, providing you are operating within UK legal towing guidelines and using an ordinary 50mm tow-ball when towing a caravan or trailer. This policy does not provide cover for 5th wheelers. There are also no extra charges for specialist equipment if your outfit gets stuck on soft ground or other ‘off-road’ areas.

Do I need a different driving licence for driving a motorhome or towing a caravan?

If you passed your test before 1st January 1997, you are able to drive any combination of car and caravan, or any motorhome with a weight of up to 7500kg (or 8250kg with a trailer).  If your licence starts after 1st January 1997 then you can drive a car and caravan with a combined maximum weight of 3500kg (or 4250kg to include a small trailer weighing no more than 750kg).

You can also drive a motorhome with a weight of up to 3500kg (with a small trailer of up to 750kg, or a heavier trailer if the combined maximum weight is no more than 3500kg).  For all drivers aged 70 and over, the motorhome weight allowance is reduced to 3500kg maximum weight, unless a medical report is supplied.

How much should I cover my caravan, equipment and contents for?

Depending on the age of your caravan you will need to choose if you want new for old cover or market value cover before deciding how much to cover your outfit, equipment and contents for. Market value is available whatever age your caravan is.

For 'New for Old' cover: choose the amount it would cost you today if you had to buy your caravan, equipment (awning, motor mover, security devices and the like) and contents (clothing, household items and personal effects) as new.

For 'Market Value' cover: choose the amount it would cost you today if you had to buy the same age caravan, equipment (awning, motor mover, security devices and the like) and contents (clothing, household items and personal effects) second hand. This is the value of your items taking into account their age and condition (allowing for depreciation or wear and tear from when they were new).

To understand your caravan's value it can be helpful to look at local and national sales adverts. If your make/model is no longer made you should look at the cost of a similar caravan, which you would be happy to have as a replacement should the worst happen. If you need more help or guidance please contact us on 01342 649889.

Do I need to wear a face covering when on holiday?

Face coverings may be required on ferries. In Europe they are often mandatory in enclosed public spaces and recommended in other situations if it is not possible to comply with local social distancing guidelines. Exemptions are allowed for children and those with certain medical conditions. For child age limits and full details for your destination(s) please check the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office website or Reopen Europa website.

What if I don’t want my details to be part of this process?

The Test and Trace system is encouraged for all members and guests aged over 16 years of age to complete on arrival at our England and Wales campsites.

In Scotland, we encourage you to scan the Check In Scotland Test and Protect QR code poster on arrival at the campsite for all party members. Alternatively, we will use your booking details should Scotland Test and Protect Team contact us (you can opt out of this by emailing testandprotectoptout@camc.com).

Campsites in Northern Ireland will be required to collect customer details to help with the Test, Trace, Protect contact tracing programme.

Are caravans legally required to have an MOT or a service?

Caravans and other light trailers are exempt from MOT-type testing. However to be road worthy, there are legal safety requirements that must be met. An annual service by a competent service agent (such as a member of the Approved Workshop Scheme www.approvedworkshops.co.uk) will check this, and also inspect the habitation parts of the caravan, leading to a safer and more reliable holiday. Take a look at our news article for more information.

Technical difficulties can happen at any time with any vehicle, regardless of their age, model and potentially whatever they’re towing. MAYDAY UK Breakdown and Recovery offers you the peace of mind that wherever you’re going, our Green Flag partners will be by your side if you do run into any difficulties, with unlimited call outs, 24/7/365 days a year, as long as it’s not for the same problem.

Market value cover means that if your caravan or equipment is stolen or the cost of repair exceeds the caravan value, your claim will be settled with a payment for the amount it would typically cost to replace them with items of a similar type and age.
