Does the MAYDAY UK breakdown product cover caravans and motorhomes?

Yes, MAYDAY UK Breakdown Cover includes all standard makes of caravans and trailers (when being towed by the vehicle on cover), motorhomes and campervans of any age, weight, or size, providing you are operating within UK legal towing guidelines and using an ordinary 50mm tow-ball when towing a caravan or trailer.

I’m not able to use my vehicles at the moment so won’t need my Mayday cover. Can I cancel my policy?

We appreciate that at this time you may not need to use your vehicles. Green Flag are therefore offering to defer cover. During the deferment period you will have no cover. Your cover will automatically restart after that time and your renewal date will be amended accordingly. Cover can be deferred up to 1 July 2020. Should you wish to, you can choose an earlier date in which to restart your policy or if your circumstances change during the deferral period, you can choose to reinstate your policy earlier. Please call 0800 051 5318 if you wish to do this.

If you decide you do wish to cancel your policy, you can of course do this.

Does MAYDAY have any age, size or weight restrictions?

There are no size, weight or vehicle age restrictions with MAYDAY, providing you are operating within UK legal towing guidelines and using an ordinary 50mm tow-ball when towing a caravan or trailer. This policy does not provide cover for 5th wheelers. There are also no extra charges for specialist equipment if your outfit gets stuck on soft ground or other ‘off-road’ areas.

Are there different levels of MAYDAY UK Breakdown cover?

Yes, MAYDAY offers three different levels of cover.

Our 'Roadside & Recovery' level includes roadside assistance to try and get you going again; recovery to a single UK destination if your vehicle can’t be repaired; a second drop-off within 75 miles of your home if your caravan or trailer needs to be recovered to a different destination; misfuelling cover; and our Dual Recovery feature, which means that if your vehicle breaks down on the way to (or during) a holiday and can’t be fixed, we'll take you on to your destination and, if your vehicle can’t be fixed during the holiday, we’ll take it (and you) back home again once your holiday is complete.

If you want extra peace of mind, we offer our 'Premium UK' cover level, which includes all the features of Roadside & Recovery, and also includes Homecall, which provides help with your vehicle at your home or recovering your car or motorhome/campervan to your nearest repairer. It also includes Extra Care, which offers a choice of one of either accommodation (up to £100 per person and a max of £600 per breakdown), car hire or alternative transport (up to £100), as well as deferred recovery and even an emergency driver if the main driver is incapacitated.

And finally, our top-tier cover level, 'Premium UK Plus', which offers all the benefits of Premium UK and also includes Enhanced Extra Care, offering a combination of accommodation (up to £150 per person and a max of £900 per breakdown), car hire and/or alternative transport (up to £150) as well as our unique Pre-Departure Caravan Cover element, which gets your immobilised caravan or trailer moving, even when it’s at home.

I’m about to put my vehicle on the road again. Are Mayday still able to help me if I do suffer a breakdown?

Yes. Green Flag continued to provide 24/7/365 breakdown cover throughout the Covid-19 Pandemic, and have implemented processes to ensure they are working safely and in line with the government guidelines – all of which continues as we move forwards. This may mean slightly different approaches need to be taken in order to get your vehicle and you where you need to be.

Please see the Green Flag COVID-19 blog for more information: https://blog.greenflag.com/covid/?cmpid=000/rescue/eml/0/service/adhoc/cvid19/0

(Please note that this is a generic page for ALL Green Flag customers, but the sections regarding 'What to do if you break down in the UK' and 'Changes to our service when you break down' apply equally to Mayday. And remember, the dedicated Mayday breakdown number - 0800 051 5318 - is still available 24/7/365).

What should I do if I break down?

Switch off your engine and switch on your hazard warning lights. If you can easily get the vehicle to a safe place, please do so, but if this cannot be achieved, ensure you get yourself and any passengers to a safe place before you do anything else. If the problem has been caused by a major accident, call the emergency services first. Otherwise, simply use the Green Flag App* or call 0800 051 5318, ideally with your MAYDAY policy number to hand (not your Caravan and Motorhome Club membership number).

Am I covered if a towed caravan breaks down?

Yes, when you take out MAYDAY UK Breakdown Cover, this includes both your tow-car and your caravan when they are being used together, and your car alone when the caravan is not being used. This means all the elements of your chosen cover level will apply to your car/caravan combination, or just your car if you are driving it on its own.

Is breakdown cover worth having?

Technical difficulties can happen at any time with any vehicle, regardless of their age, model and potentially whatever they’re towing. No matter how well you maintain your vehicles, there’s always 'the other guy', the weather and any number of other elements outside your control. MAYDAY UK Breakdown and Recovery offers you the peace of mind that wherever you’re going, our Green Flag partners will be by your side if you do run into any difficulties, with unlimited call outs, 24/7/365 days a year, as long as it’s not for the same problem.

What kind of cover do I need for making a single trip?

All cover levels of MAYDAY UK Breakdown are annual policies that cover every trip you make throughout the year, whether this is a single trip, or multiple trips, and regardless of the length of the trip - which is why we say you are covered 24/7/365.

What is the average cost of breakdown cover?

Breakdown cover pricing can vary significantly across providers based on a wide range of factors, not least how each provider structures its pricing and the level of cover provided. Many providers adopt ‘risk-rated’ pricing, which means the price may vary depending on your vehicle and other circumstances. Your premium may also increase at renewal, for example depending on whether, and how many times you use the service. MAYDAY UK Breakdown Cover is a fixed-price policy – the price you see quoted on our website is the price you’ll pay. And it will not change at renewal, regardless of how many times you use the service, unless the overall ‘list price’ changes.

What insurance and financial services does the Caravan and Motorhome Club offer?
