With climate change high on the world-wide agenda and evidence of Nature’s fragility everywhere we turn, few would question that our Earth is changing dramatically and in some cases irrevocably. Yet nature is a force to be reckoned with and in this wide-ranging exhibition by East Riding Artists, painters, potters, and creatives celebrate everything our natural world has to offer. From the power of the North Sea and the breath-taking beauty of the region’s countryside and coastline to the food we grow and the flowers we cultivate, there is much to celebrate in our ever-changing world.

Nottinghamshire

Pushabout (walks with pushchairs) – Clumber Park, Nottinghamshire
Walks throughout the year

Find a community of people in Pushabout; a walking group created for anyone who has or looks after pushchair-aged children. During these accessible and beautiful walks, you can meet other adults, find support and build up your fitness on a basic level.

The walks are generally around 3 miles in length and mostly on hard standing paths. The friendly volunteers will lead you on different routes for the seasons and help you explore your walking potential.

These walks are held on the second Monday of every month.

Heritage & Horticulture Amble – Clumber Park, Nottinghamshire

Enjoy a stroll around Clumber Park's core visitor area, discovering snippets of the estate's ducal history and seasonal highlights. Each month has a different theme and route. The route is no longer than 3km.

East Anglia

Trust10 at Blickling Estate (trail runs) – Blickling Hall, Gardens and Park, Norfolk

Trust10 monthly trail runs are a great way to blow away the cobwebs, get some exercise and take in spectacular scenery throughout the seasons. 

Take part on the fourth Sunday of every month (except August and December) at 9.20am for your briefing and start shortly after. No pre-booking required.

Trust10 at Blickling is a series of loops of the multi use trail – complete them all and you’ve done a 10k! Or complete the first 3k loop and call it a day and build up to more distance as you feel confident. There is no pressure to complete the full 10km, just breathe in the surroundings and nature (and possibly some coffee and cake afterwards at the Muddy Boots café!)

Social Walks – Kingston Lacy, Dorset
Once a month throughout the year

Discover the ever changing Kingston Lacy woodlands and countryside and embrace the opportunity to meet new people on these gentle strolls, ranging from 3-4 miles (around 1½ hours). Please note: new start time of 10am for 2024.

The walks are designed to be a gentle social stroll where you can meet new people, discover new places to walk and build your confidence walking in the countryside. The walks will all finish at the Kingston Lacy café where you can choose to stop for a drink and slice of cake with your fellow walkers (not included).

Brownsea Island: Historical tour and cream tea – Brownsea Island, Dorset
Runs up to October (various dates)

Listen to fascinating tales of Brownsea's past on this guided walk. Enjoy exclusive access into the castle for a cream tea before heading back on the last boat of the day.

Discover the intriguing history of Brownsea Island with one of our knowledgeable guides, who will take you on a journey back in time. Learn about the castle's eccentric past residents, royalty, and farming community. Brownsea Castle, run by the John Lewis Partnership is allowing limited access to the public. The walks are available on the third Tuesday of the month (except August).

Dorset Wildlife Trust and the National Trust have partnered to offer you an opportunity to enjoy the island and its wildlife before the crowds arrive.

A ranger from the Dorset Wildlife Trust team will lead you on a wander around the island, lakes and lagoon. Experience the peace and tranquillity of the island and listen out for the sounds of the unique wildlife as they busy about their day. Afterwards, enjoy a delicious breakfast roll and hot beverage in the harbour fronted café before heading back on the National Trust boat to Sandbanks. Walks & Talks – Stourhead, Wiltshire

Discover the story of Stourhead and its landscape garden on daily guided tours.

Accompany one of Stourhead's knowledgeable volunteers on the original route taken by the Hoare family and their guests, and learn the history of this fascinating place. Walks take approx. 1-1½ hrs. Meet by the interpretation hub.

Making a House a Home: 300 Years of Women’s History at Stourhead
Daily until November

300 years of Stourhead as a home, shines a light on the women who shaped this iconic place.

The Stourhead story is told through the eyes of the women who played a part in making it into a special place, including Alda Hoare, who gifted Stourhead to the National Trust in 1946 and to Jane Benson who was the first lady to live in the house in the 18th century. Some left diaries, sharing their thoughts and feelings, others left only a single letter or photograph. On display you will find personal mementos, diary passages and replica dresses that have been carefully recreated based on historical photographs and portraits.

Winchester City Mill - 20 Years of Milling with the National Trust

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of milling with the National Trust, they will be delving into the archives to showcase photographs and stories from the last two decades.

On the 12th March 2004 the Deputy High Sheriff of Winchester declared the site officially re-opened as a working mill. An historic day indeed; it had been almost a century since flour had last been milled there and after a 12 year restoration program, the public were invited to a public demonstration of the site in action – the wheel turning in all it's glory!

Find the friendly artisan volunteers in the Outer Bailey every Friday displaying heritage crafts such as stone carving, wood carving, wattle and daubing, and more!

Discover the plants that call Corfe Castle home with this new family quest.

Corfe Castle is not only a historic ruin but also a haven for wildlife and wildflowers. On this family quest discover the positive and negative impacts these plants can have on a 1000 year old castle ruin.

Hunt the ruins for the quest boards around the castle, note down your answer as you go to earn your conservation coin.

Health Cycle Rides – Kingston Lacy, Dorset
Every Thursday throughout the year

Would you like to take up cycling again, have lost confidence, or would just like to ride with other people using traffic-free trails or quiet country lanes?

These rides are led by trained volunteers from Dorset Council's Health and Activity team and take you around the Kingston Lacy estate at your own pace. The rides last about an hour.

Nordic Wellness Walk – Kingston Lacy, Dorset
Every Tuesday throughout the year

Would you like to try a gentle Nordic walk in the beautiful surroundings of Kingston Lacy? Dorset Council run weekly walks every Tuesday at 10am that last an hour.

A Nordic wellness walk may incorporate mobility exercises to help with flexibility, balance and strength whilst using your poles to improve your general fitness. These sessions are suitable for those who are starting at a lower level of fitness, coming back from injury, or may have medical conditions and are perfect for beginners.

Monthly Ramblers Walk – Polesden Lacey, Surrey

Come with friends or make some new ones on this invigorating social stroll around the Polesden Lacey countryside.

Taking place every fourth Wednesday of the month, this volunteer-led walk takes an hour and a half. Dogs on a lead are welcome but they must be kept on a lead at all times.

Meet at 9.30am outside the coffee shop.

The Last Tree and the Art of Nature in collaboration with Luke Adam Hawker – Polesden Lacey, Surrey

Join us for a special collaboration with best-selling author and renowned artist Luke Adam Hawker.

Discover the beauty of nature through art as you view some of the most loved original illustrations and pages from his book ‘The Last Tree’. Inside the house, Hawker’s artwork will be exhibited alongside Mrs Greville’s Fabergé and art collection. Continue outside to find a new way to connect with nature as you observe and draw the trees at Polesden Lacey. Take the time to be curious, listen to the rustling leaves and feel in the moment with your surroundings.

A social walk with a few steady inclines, this walk takes approximately an hour and takes in some of the best views from Polesden Lacey.

This volunteer-led walk takes an hour. Walkers should be sufficiently fit to walk 1-2 miles. Meet at 10am, outside the coffee shop.

Join the Dog Walking Group on an energetic walk around the estate with your canine friend on the second Tuesday of the month.

Spring Foraging Course – Acorn Bank Garden and Watermill, Cumbria

Learn about all things foraging with Wild Food UK.

The foraging course begins with a short introduction on foraging, a talk about Wild Food UK’s Foraging Code with a brief summary of the Countryside Act. Then take a slow walk around Acorn Bank’s estate, learning to identify the different plants, flowers, fruits and mushrooms you might find. Along the way, there will be the chance to stop for seasonal homemade refreshments such as Wild Food UK’s wild sorrel soup, elderflower champagne or fruit leathers. End the day with a tasty wild food lunch based on what’s been found throughout the day. Wild Food UK's homemade food is seasonal, so for these courses the meal will be built around what's growing on the estate.

Available daily, explore more of the parkland at Kedleston with a family friendly orienteering course. Using a map, choose your own route to find your way.

Buy the orienteering map from visitor reception and explore at your own pace. Choose from a 1.6 mile route or a 3 mile route. Both routes include slopes, uneven ground, gates, and livestock.

Bluebell Walks 2024 (5 miles) – Clent Hills, Worcestershire

A guided walk to discover the best of the bluebells on the Clent Hills. You’ll take a route around some of the best spots to see bluebells.

This walk is around 5 miles long and should last about 3 hours, you’ll be led by one of the passionate Walk Leader volunteers who will share their knowledge of the nature that calls the hills home as well as local folklore and history.

These walks are perfect for those looking to gain confidence in walking in the countryside, want to meet new people or want to discover new routes around the Clent Hills. Everyone is welcome and the walk is at the pace of the slowest person. There may be a few stiles to navigate, and some sections of the route will be steep and hilly.
