Our insurance experts share their top tips for how to make a claim if the worst should happen.

The freedom of the open road is a cornerstone of the Caravan and Motorhome Club experience. Whether you’re exploring the North Coast 500 or enjoying a quiet weekend in the Cotswolds, your motorhome or campervan is your home away from home. However, even with the most meticulous preparation, accidents and mishaps can occur.
If you find yourself needing to make a claim, our priority is to ensure the process is as straightforward and stress-free as possible. Here is our guide on how to navigate the claims process effectively.
Immediate steps: Safety first
Following any incident; don’t start thinking about the paperwork. Ensure the safety of yourself, your passengers, and your vehicle:
- Secure the scene: If you are involved in a road incident, move to a safe location and use your hazard lights.
- Exchange information: If the incident involves other parties, always exchange names, addresses, and insurance details with any other parties involved. Avoid admitting liability at the scene; simply stick to the facts.
- Record the details: Take photographs of the damage to the affected vehicles and the surrounding area. Note the weather conditions, time of day, and any witness contact details.
- Theft or Malicious Damage: If your vehicle has been stolen or intentionally damaged, you must contact the police immediately to obtain a crime reference number.
How to start your claim
For members who have our Motorhome or Campervan Insurance, the claims process is managed by our specialist partners.
-
- Notify the team: Call the dedicated 24-hour claims helpline on 0345 504 0334. It is important to report the incident as soon as possible, even if you don't intend to make a claim immediately.
- Provide your details: Have your membership number, vehicle registration, and policy documents ready. The team will guide you through the "First Notification of Loss" to get the wheels in motion.
- Assessment: Depending on the nature of the damage, your insurer will appoint an engineer to assess the vehicle and provide a repair estimate.
Repairs and Specialists
We understand that motorhomes and campervans are specialist vehicles. You often have the choice between:
- Approved Repairers: Using an insurer’s approved network can often speed up the process and may include a guarantee on the work performed.
- Your Own Choice: If you have a preferred local specialist or need to use a manufacturer-approved workshop to maintain a warranty, you can usually request this, though it may require an additional estimate.
Windscreen and Glass Claims
For chips or cracks to your windscreen or windows, check your policy schedule. Our Motorhome and Campervan Insurance allows you to claim without affecting your No Claims discount. Please note that specialist habitation windows may require a different process than standard automotive glass.
