Preventing motorhome and campervan theft

With motorhome and campervan thefts on the rise, we re-cap our top security tips.

A recent article in Fleet News Magazine highlighted analysis by Direct Line Insurance revealing the astonishing fact that a van is stolen every 46 minutes in Britain. Figures from the DVLA revealed that over 11,250 vans, worth an estimated £200 million, were stolen in England, Wales and Scotland in 2024 - that’s an average of 31 thefts a day.

Over half of all of these were Ford Transits, with Mercedes Sprinters, Peugeot Boxers, Vauxhall Vivaros and Citroen Relays making up the majority of the rest. Of course, not all stolen vans are motorhomes and campervans, but it’s clear that the vulnerability to theft - and the attractiveness to thieves - stretches across all formats.
