Investing £35million in the Scottish economy
Club members’ spend in local economies such as meals out, visitor attractions and days out has a positive impact on the Scottish economy – to the tune of over £35million per annum – and supports the equivalent of 650 full-time jobs in Scotland. The sector as a whole is worth £700million annually to the Scottish economy.
The Caravan Club opened two brand new, multi-million pound site developments in Scotland in recent years – at Strathclyde and Stonehaven – and continues to invest an additional one million pounds every year in its network.
Caravan Club members love Scotland because it is a land of contrasts, Scotland boasts vibrant and exciting cities, breath-taking lochs, mountains and coastlines that should be explored. Every inch of Scotland is steeped in culture and history, something that the Scots are proud of. Scotland has produced some of the world's best writers, painters, sculptors, poets and musicians. These talents are often seen at Scotland's many festivals, such as the Edinburgh International Festival.
The Club runs a network of welcoming sites across the country, from Thurso to the Borders, and from the cities of the Central Belt to the wilds of Wester Ross to help visitors make the most of their trip. Along with smaller, five-pitch Certificated Locations, the sites network provides over two million touring ‘bed nights’ per annum in Scotland.
Scottish tours have become a popular topic of conversation on The Caravan Club’s online community, Club Together. Members regularly suggest a selection of tours, ranging from golf tours, historical and nature adventures, available to view on The Club’s website.
Harvey Alexander, Director of Marketing at The Caravan Club says, “The Club is delighted to be able to say it has enabled so many visitors from outside of Scotland to enjoy the wonderful country and to assist another 30,000 Scottish-based tourers to find great locations to stay. Taking a look at bookings made by tourers who live and also holiday in Scotland with The Club, Edinburgh Caravan Club Site and the Kingdom of Fife are our most popular holiday destinations – Dunnet Bay and Altnaharra are favourites for a more rural holiday.”
Almost 70 per cent of tourists staying on Caravan Club sites live outside of Scotland, contributing massively to the value of inbound tourism.
