Broken down at a campsite – no need to panic!

Breaking down at a campsite may turn a peaceful weekend away into a challenging and stressful situation, with many of us left wondering what to do. This is why we’ve spoken to our MAYDAY UK Breakdown Cover provider Green Flag, to give you the best guidance possible to ensure your trip remains memorable.

So, what do I do if I’ve broken down?

In the event of a breakdown, once you are in a safe place to do so, you should contact us at Green Flag - the provider of MAYDAY. You can do this by calling us directly or by using the Green Flag app if you have a smartphone, whichever you prefer. With either of these methods, we will ask questions to help identify the fault with your vehicle and ensure we send the appropriate service provider and rescue vehicle to you, depending on the issue.
If your vehicle requires more than just a roadside fix, don’t worry, our service providers have workshops and can provide you with a quote for the appropriate repairs there and then. If that’s not a viable option, then our technical team can help locate a local garage.

What does this mean for my trip or holiday?

Depending on when the breakdown occurs, we will work with you to land on the right solution. Here’s some guidance on what to expect in terms of your options:
If your vehicle breaks down while you are travelling to a pre-booked campsite but can’t be repaired at the roadside, we’ll take you, your vehicle, and your passengers to your campsite.
If your vehicle can’t be fixed locally to your campsite, you can ask us to take you home or you can choose to stay at the campsite and continue your holiday.
If you choose to continue your holiday and the vehicle can’t be repaired locally, we will collect you, the vehicle and your passengers from the campsite and return you all to your home at the end of your holiday.
If you break down during your stay, we’ll get you back to your campsite and we’ll take you, your passengers, and your vehicle home if it can’t be fixed in time for your return journey.

Does the process depend on my outfit type?

If you are towing a caravan or trailer, then we also have Double Drop Off on all cover levels. This means we can recover your car to one destination and your caravan or trailer to another. Just as long as the destination for the towed vehicle is within 75 miles of your home address. We know this can be useful, particularly if you keep your caravan or trailer in storage.
We hope these tips are helpful and you are now more informed about the rescue process.
